Title: Chops and Elbows' 28mm Pirate Project
Post by: Elbows on 04 January 2013, 12:07:58 AM
Hey all,

Sometime last year I probably posted some very preliminary stuff about a pirate project I was starting.  This was put on hold as I had a bad batch of miniatures, and generally lost enthusiasm for it.  Fast forward six months and I got back in touch with an old buddy of mine.  We started talking gaming projects.  I'd been knocking out my Macross and Old West game projects and figured I'd renew my Pirate efforts.

I had developed a game system called Fighting Fives, and was using it with much success and enjoyment in my Old West gaming.  I started doing up notes for a Pirate version, as the rules set would be entirely the same, but the characters, weapons, events etc. would be changed...ships and sharks added etc.  I'll be chronicling it in this thread just to keep it all in one place.

A few pictures of our preliminary playtest games from this past weekend.

Apologies for piss-poor unpainted models...and only the start of our terrain!

More information on the game itself and how it runs later!

Looks like a great start to me.

I do feel sorry for all those humans swallowed by the sharks, as they were lounging on those surf mats though.

;-)

Funny you should mention that...the Pirates took a hostage and my buddy decided to throw him into the water (in order to keep the sharks distracted while some of his pirates were swimming across a gap).  Turns out the civilian hostage managed to put up a bit of a fight, and wounded the shark, keeping it at bay for a few turns before being devoured.  Brave fellow.

As I've espoused in my other Old West thread, the 4Ground stuff is heads and tails the best MDF stuff I've owned.  A bit time intensive (lots of double-sided stuff)...but the end result is simply marvelous.  My "town" (port in progress) will consist of another 3-4 additional 4Ground buildings.  They're that good.

I received my WSS artillery sets, and palm trees...and will start work on the stone-walled port at some point.  I have a handful of rocky formations to be painted, and a lot of work to do.  Luckily the detritus pieces work with my other games and can be shared.  This project is in its infancy, but I see a lot of potential.  Will likely eventually join my Old West game as something I'll do for buddies and at conventions etc.
