A new Kickstarter for some cool looking sci-fi corridors that are laser-cut.
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1812955737/bug-hunt-corridors
-
A very nice project, but at an unfortunate moment in time for me.
If/when he reaches his goals and production has been started, I might very well spend a good deal of money on those...
Corridors could very well be made by hand and that would be fun to do, the time constraints of a grown-up's life makes getting products like these much more tempting. Especially since these lasercut things are in most cases as cheap or cheaper than scratchbuilding them.
Good luck to the guy! :)
-
They look cool. At a glance I don't see anywhere measurements for the pieces or how large a set you get at any level, which is key info.
-
I saw in one of the videos that the straight section has its grate pattern flooring (usable space for model bases) at 3 inches wide and 3-1/2 inches long. So I guess conceivably you could get three 25mm bases across a corridor, barring any flailing arms etc :).

That's my understanding too; internal sections are 3" wide x 3.5" long. The contents look to be 6 straights and something like 3 Ts and 1 crossroads section for $100. It looks good but I think I'd rather make my own for that money. I'm quite tight though!
-
Would be more interested if it wasn't the far side of the pond - wouldn't want to get hit for the import duties.
-
For the Level 1 pledge you get 6 straight sections, 1 L-corner, 1 T-intersection, and 1 4-way intersection.
The Level 2 gets 2x everything in the Level 1 pledge.
The Level 3 gets 3x everything in the Level 1 pledge.
When it gets funded, you get 5 end caps for the Level 1, 8 for the Level 2, and 11 for the Level 3, the most you would need to make a closed system.
The Level 1 gets one of each basic stretch goals, Level 2 gets two of each, and Level 3 gets three of each.
Level 3 also gets one of each Advanced stretch goal.
-
Took the plunge at Level 3. Appreciate the detailing, the modularity, and the entrepreneurship.
-
Fenris games do a complete sulacco/hulk set in resin for a very good price. Tiles with and without alien hive too.
-
Looks great. But he sure as Hell needs some work on his public speaking.

Exactly. :?

I think it gives it a sort of an amateur charm; just a hobby enthousiast like us. I usually get very wary when a marketing slick with media training starts spewing his oiled sales pitch. ::)
But some well painted examples of his stuff would be nice; eye candy sells. And my eyes like the candy...
-
Funded already! On to stretch goals.
-
The end caps are included in the level pledges.
He added the load lifter model and hex crates for free to level 1,2 & 3 levels. Level 2 gets 5 small and 5 large crates, level 3 gets 10 small and 10 large crates.
Next stretch goal is at $9K (less than $400 away!) and is a free corridor end room, one free for level 1, two free for level 2, and three free for level 3.
(wish this would let me paste a pic here)
The goal after that is onlyl $10,500 and is a free corridor side room. again one free for level 1, two for level 2, and three free for level 3.

It does look nice. And yes he definitely needs to do some serious work on his presentation. Rehearse what you want to say and be aware there's a camera in front of you. And then do it for real like there's no camera but people in front of you. Interact.

Public speaker or not, he seems handy with that cutter. I'm already planning how to paint mine up.

Not corridors, but may be of interest for you:

You are quite right. He's the technician. And let somebodyelse do the talking.
-
I didn't watch the video - but I'm glad to see this stuff. There is so much fantastic MDF stuff coming out from a ton of shops. It's a great material, and it's awesome to see how easy and fast it can be planned and produced.
I have a buddy who does laser-cut stuff and I occasionally chat with him about an idea, and he has a prototype the next day. Between this and 3D printing, gaming is great. :D
-
I agree - Done right, this 3d MDF printing is a real boon to wargaming.
Speaking-wise, I'd print/paint up a simple layout, take some in-game shots, and let the product do most of the talking. After all, that's what the customer is really buying here.

Nice stuff there. Anyone in the States carry it? I'd love to get some.
-
I really like these corridors. I think they will be great looking once painted, especially with interiour availble in resin, like computer consoles, cryo chambers and similar stuff. Hopefully these will become reality for everyone to get. Amazing what can be made out of plywood. :D The design looks like Hadley's Hope out of Aliens.
-
I like the look of these a lot, however I see one sort of issue.
The angle of the sides of the corridors is out at the bottom, in at the top. Considering these are corridors players will be mainly looking down onto the corridors which means a lot of the details on the sides will become invisible to the eye.
It's also not overly competitive with resin alternatives.

ooh nice, thanks for the Link :)

I don“t believe it is sold in USA yet, but ask them for postage.
-
God help me, I have decided to make my first kickstarter committment. In for a penny,in for a pound IIRC - in this case $100 USD.
Gracias,
Glenn

I ended up going for it, too. As more of the stretch goals have been met and added to the sets it became a better deal. I was thinking about building something along these lines but this has the bonus of being more detailed and more modular than I probably would have built. I think they will work well as spaceship corridors or as a base for my Doctor Who games without looking too sci-fi for a contemporary military bunker.
-
The more I see of this the more I like it. Unfortunately it's out of my price range with European postage. I'm really pleased for the guy it's working out.
-
For those of us on this side of the pond, Warmill has just put up an empty placeholder page for their modular Scifi corridors.
Couple of development pics here:

The Warmill stuff looks pretty good. Their store prices are quite high but it does look like a quality product they make. I still fancy trying to make my own though. All I need is a lot of time and a 'frickin' laser'!
-
Closing in on the Cargo Hold. He posted new pics of it.
$20 add on or Level 3 pledges get it for free.

Also has an early WIP picture of the modular rooms.

This is turning into quite a nice project. I just hope the guy doesn't "Stretch-Goal" himself into a corner.
-
The beauty of it is...he spends X amount of time on a design, gets it right - and then just loads up the MDF, pushes a button, and does some quality control.
I agree though - some of the stuff is getting nuts. I dig it...maybe have to consider getting in on it.
-
I love the new stuff. He just needs to 'franchise' the patterns to someone in Europe!
-
This one sweet set! Dying to get in...

Yup, and Fenris have walls and some much larger room sections planned as well.
The laser cut terrain looks good, I just think its like everyone's excitement for boxes of plastic figures - you get all excited and then when you open the box and realise how much of your life will be spent putting the damn things together you put the box back on the shelf lol
I've already bought a stack of the Fenris tiles and the big plus is you can get it on the table pretty quick - undercoat, dry brush and off you go.

I'll take MDF all day over resin. Assemble one good 4Ground MDF kit and you'll be blown away simple, robust, light-weight, strong, and "awesome" they are. :)

each to their own. ;)
The key word for me there was "assemble"....
The resin Fenris tiles are also robust, light-weight, strong and awesome, and they avoid the hours of cursing as you glue your fingers together
lol
-
I understand where you're coming from if you're talking about old MDF kits. I inherited one at a convention, and it's comically complicated compared to the modern stuff. Most of my modern MDF stuff fits together like a glove, so a dab of glue and done.
I don't consider resin to be a "robust" gaming material. I'm hesitating buying more Black Scorpion models because they've gone all resin :(
-
Remembering that I have to paint, assemble and store these bits did reign me in a bit on size of my purchase. I hope to keep to a pretty basic paint sceme--spray an undercoat in either black or gray and then dry brush the details using a limited pallet of a few colors. I think the fastest method will be to paint them unassembled, doing all of one type at once and then gluing them together. I got a bunch of resin computer banks and space scenery awhile back--my goal is to get them painted before this set arrives in the hopes it will keep me motivated to get the whole board done.
-
Yep, that's one of the few problems I have...good MDF stuff is relatively cheap and I end up buying a lot - then having to store it all! Luckily my Old West stuff has interiors and I stash all of my extra bits in there. I don't have money to get in on this, but definitely will when they become available.
-

Would agree in terms of gaming figures - have got a load of the tiles though, and they have survived the "drop test" courtesy of my kids a number of times lol
-
8 days left!
He added a translucent green acrylic force field door stretch goal, a stairwell stretch goal, and a narrow room stretch goal.
-
Finished a few of my Bug Hunt Corridors. The red LED in the corner is actually a slow flashing LED warning light.
The red pipes are from Pegasus Hobbies Chemical Plant kit.

I must admit they do look good!
-
Wow, nice paint job. Those are nice. Love the details you've added especially the blinking led.
-
I think more games need to be played in low-light...I've considered trying to come up with a bunch of led street-lamps for my Old West game, and playing with a dimmer switch installed on the room, allowing me to set a nice evening look for the game. Could be pretty cool. :-* Nice job on that!
-
Ithaquatini, had guy running the ks has pics to show like yours while it was on he would have made a ton more. He'd probably have *my* money for starters. :-*
-
Thanks guys!
That would be cool Elbows!
Here is a close up shot I did with an IMEF Sgt. from the Reaper Bones Kickstarter (I since painted his chin strap that I missed). On one scenario I have an additional optional goal called Turn off that damn alarm! (like you see in almost every movie) where you have to go to all 4 lights and spend a turn in contact to smash them since they are annoying sarge. Of course, the aliens are not going to make it easy for you. heh.
