Title: Shameless Theft - Pulp Alley Scenery
Post by: pauld on January 13, 2013, 04:37:23 PM
I haven't really nicked anything (I'm a good boy) but the photos David and Mila (Wolfgirl) Phipps keep posting have resulted in a severe case of scenery envy  :(

I just don't have enough Pulp stuff and I need more because I do like that game.  Time to get the wallet out and do something about it.

Being a clueless sort of cove my only course of action was blatant plagiarism - see the photo evidence

David had used vinly tiles for a desert base.  Brilliant idea!  A trip to B+Q got my very own cheap and (rather nice) solution

No big bits?  The Pet Supermaket (forget the name but they're all over the place) got me a big Tutenkhamen head, and Anubis statue and base and a SE Asia jungle style Buddha head which when turned round has a nice block wall pattern.  This are really very good and work out quite cheap (especially as they have a 3 for 2 sale on at the moment)

Adobe type houses - I'll have to make my own.  No imagination?  No worries.  Copy the Phipps kids once again.  I need to make a few more and paint them now.

Palm Trees?  I'm too tight to pay the money for the Pegasus sets so a quick rummage in the forgotten drawers found some plastic palm trees that came with a dinosaur set (and that's another senario for later)

A few more rocks and set dressing and I will be ready for the The Fate of the Lost Patrol

A cheap solution to a Pulp Alley gaming table (small is beautiful)

I have a number of those Petsmart bits too, but, being lazy, I bought my buildings from PMC......  :D

Pet stores are a wargamer's friend.
Have lots of stuff from them.
Looks like you are on your way to some great games.

Lots of good stuff there!  :-*

I like the color you picked out for the tiles. Oh, one thing I've also done is stick tiles of different colors back-to-back --
This doubles their weight, so they are even less likely to scoot during a game.
It gives me a second "setting" just by flipping the tiles over.
And, because Mila wouldn't let me stick them straight to the table, it gets rid of the paper backing.

The buildings are looking great ...but that Anubis statue is my favorite bit!

Nice collection! I'll have to check the pet stores out too.

Very nice scenery, matches the scenario perfectly! Most items don't even look like they were bought cheap from the store, the Egyptian head is the best! Some history buffs would maybe say that the columns are more roman or greek and don't belong in an Egyptian environment, but it's pulp after all! And the concept of "stealing" from others fits for the same reason ;)

Lots of Greek architectural bits, bobs and influences found in Egypt during the Late Hellenistic and after.
The Ptolemies did not build just in the Egyptian style.

I have a goodly number of those trees from the dinosaurs sets at Kaybee Toys.
A much used resource!

I like your thinking, pauld. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in The Fate of the Lost Patrol?

Brilliant, like the tiles very much, quick easy and goodlooking. I noticed the tiles David and Mila were using and it seems a brill idea and very little work. You need to get on and post a report on the Lost Patrol, looking forward to reading it. I only recently joined the forum but have been so inspired by stuff on here, especially Tsune, Grimm and the amazing Father and Daughter duo, who seem to have taken Pulp to new hights. Get the game and report done soon.
All the best
