started on this plasticville airplane hangar 2 weeks ago and put quite some time into painting the rust.
I thought a nice base would be fitting for this piece and remembered Sangennaru's excellent tutorial on concrete streets from MDF. (thread here : http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=26860.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=26860.0))
And so I ended up with this :

The roof is removable for easy interior access (nothing fancy as it is only primed)
All rust colors used come from the Lifecolor Rust & Dust set.
Thursday I'm gonna try my first game of Mutants & Death Ray Guns and this will most probably find a place on the table.
I'm still not happy with the windsock, as I gather in a PA setting all that would remain of it would be some rags and another point I'm thinking of is some faint tire marks on the concrete, but here too, I'm not sure if those rubber particles wouldn't just dissappear over the years.
-
Looks great, the time you spent on it really shows!
-
Looks as advertised to me. Great work. Now for a wrecked chopper or jeep, or a couple spilt oil drums.
-
Beautiful, sir. I would be glad to have that on my Fallout table.
No, seriously, send it over. :D lol
-
Well done.
Love the rust and the concrete.
Or is it, the concrete and the rust. lol
I try to make little joke. ;)
-
I'm still not happy with the windsock
I would find an old piece of sprue that is the same diameter as the wind sock post. Then attach a ring to it with some shreds of cloth or paper hanging down. Then replace the old wind sock.
-
Thanks all,
The chopper won't be for the near future, though I have a 1/48 Hind kit stashed away somewhere :D
As for the windsock, I was already thinking in the line of the suggestion. I'm leaning towards medical bandage rather than paper.

yes !! very nice work !!
-
That's going to be a nice board!!
-
Wonderful stuff!

That looks great, I must get one of those for myself. I love the rust and the concrete.

Great stuff! 8)
I love the concrete; very realistic indeed. You mentioned tire marks; I'd go for it, if I were you. It would make the surface more interesting, as would (oil)stains and grass in between the tiles.
You certainly make getting some of those plasticville buildings more attractive... ;)
-
WOW Zizi, very nice. Love your rust effect and really love what you did with the building. Just out of curiosity where did you buy the plasticville stuff?
Regards,
Za

Wow! :-* That really is very, very good!
-
Lovely work.
:)
-
Looks great zizi
I imagine that cost you a pretty penny!
-
Oooooh! Beauty! Love the effects and textures!
-
That is a stunning piece. The rust looks great. Top work that man.
-
The rust is amazing, but Im not totally convinced by the concrete. It needs more, maybe some stains or somthing?
-
Great work, that man!
:-* :-* :-*
Great rusting and that concrete looks terrific.

While I agree that the concrete could do with a little detailing to really make it pop, it works just fine as it is.
Once figures and other scatter-type scenery are on top of it, it will look perfectly well.
Just go back and add a little of something when you see fit, if you think it needs it, is my suggestion.

Cheers, guys.

Ah, yes grass. I knew there was something I overlooked. And I still have some of those short brown mossy patches from silflor too.
There's already 1 oilstain, didn't want to overdo it, but one or 2 more should be feasible.
Just out of curiosity where did you buy the plasticville stuff?
All my plasticville stuff is purchased in the States through Ebay. Only recently did I discover that you can get 'em in some shops un the UK :
http://www.ontracks.co.uk/index.php?page=catalogue&cat=530 (http://www.ontracks.co.uk/index.php?page=catalogue&cat=530)

As said, US + ebay, so yes. this one was €11,60 + €33 P&P...
Don't think I had to cough up customs on this one.
Others in the collection are :
gas station, diner, station platform, school, barn, Bank, Post Office, Hospital, TV-station, Ranch and a second Barn.
Probably spent some €200 over 2 years for this collection.

I like that way of thinking. Besides, got to read up on Modern spearhead for tonight's first game of Arab -Israeli wars a friend is hosting. No clue if and what I'll be gaming tomorrow and the Mutant and Death Ray Guns rules are to be studied by thursday evening, so it'll have to wait anyway.
So many games, so little time !

:o
Wow. Nice job.
-
excellent work, that looks reaaly good and natural
-
Great stuff! Need to try out the concrete myself. 8)
-
I really like it! Richard
-
Great work there!

That is great. My mate has this one in his collection and we have been using it for years in it's out of the box colours because he can't be bothered to paint it. I must show him your pictures so he can get motivated. splendid stuff.

The rust looks great, but I'm wondering if maybe it isn't a little overdone, especially since the roof looks so clean. I think maybe a layer of overall weathering over the entire thing would be beneficial.
Not trying to knock it though, as that's a fantastic job... I just think it's looking a little TOO rusty, especially when contrasted with the roof.
-
Looks great! Besides the tire marks and grass, you might want to consider some rust stains on the concrete from the building.

That makes 2 of us :-I. The more I look at it, the more I agree with that point of view, and it's not just too much rust , it also looks too much as a pattern, as if not random enough to be honest.
Been contemplating on glueing some dried grass or mosspatches between the roofplates. Dunno about weathering. I've seen photos of complete metal hangars, but that would have ment even more rust so I went for black as with the bitumen roofing material. The only weathering I know of for that material would be fading and cracking.

Good point, but the building isn't fixed to the plate, in case I want to use it with another piece (e.g. that exquisite Pardulon bunker)
added a couple of extra grease spots and some dried grass already. no tire marks yet. Attention has been diverted towards newly arrived stuff like Sedition Wars box and a couple of armorcast models :D
