The Dreadfleet game has received some really bad critics on the whole. I bought it when it was released just for the minis, not on any fanboy reaction, but to have something slightly different. However, you have to know what you're buying.
The models are incredibly detailed and are really enjoyable. Nevertheless, I felt they were lacking something, so I decided to give them a personal touch.
I began painting the pieces:

But then added the secret ingredient:

So the result became something like this:

The same recipe with this other monster:

And an example of the game:

Dreadfleet is not so bad, I enjoyed it. Really did.
In my blog you have the whole process for the rigging of both ships, the human Heldenhammer (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/painting-dreadfleet-heldenhammer.html) and the vampire Bloody Reaver (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/painting-dreadfleet-bloody-reaver.html). And the introductory battle (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/playing-dreadfleet-introduction.html), of course.

Lovely paintwork and some interesting reading on your blog, thanks for sharing.
-
rigging? really really?! :o very nice couldn't just paint them up great and all YOU had to rig them up!! :-* :-*
-
Ships look great with a bit of rigging and yours are rather something :-*
cheers
James

Looks great...you crazy man!
-
I'm glad you like it :)
The rigging is not, of course, realistic at all, but that was not the aim. They're just fantasy ships, absolutely absurd from the most basic naval engineering point of view. I just wanted them to pretend a better looking aspect, the rigging distributing the pressure from the sails all over the hull and so.
I did the same with all of the models in the box, so I'll be posting them and let you judge the results :)
-
actually I like the models, too. And - even while I have no need to play it - it seems to be a nice addition for my fleet from Uncharted Seas, so meanwhile I were a few times only one step away from buying it, and sooner or later I guess I will.
So, thanks for haring, too!
best wishes
DK

I love them, and I for one, love the game too!!!!
Great rigging, I wish I had the patience and skill... I know it is not 'realistic', but it looks convincing!!!
-
Very cool, I didn't buy into Dreadfleet but the rigging sure adds a lot to the look, well done!
-
Thank you! :)
New ship today, the Elven Seadrake
The warship with Smaug on the stern :D

Glueing your fingers thread to the sails is fun!

This is the result:

You can read the whole process here:

I'm skipping some steps to avoid repetition (it's the same than the other ships), more pics, less text.
Hopefully I'll soon recover the 'old school' flavour for the blog; in the meanwhile I'll be posting my whole fleet ;)
-
Come on man! These ships are outstanding! Not to mention the rigging! Fantastic painting and table, I am really jealous. Btw I checked out your blog, that 54mm braveheart fig looks great.
Cheers,
Damien

Thank you very much! :)
I'll try to post different things to avoid saturation of ships, Dreadfleet is not way too popular.
But I'll keep posting! Stay tuned! :D

Excellent work. I was going to pick up a copy for the models and then realised I would never paint them.
-
Nooo! :D You have to go on! The models are plenty of lovely details, painting them is a pleasure :)
-
Let me bring you a new ship today, the Swordfysh.
(Well, all of its pieces :D):

As I've done before, I got sticky fingers glueing thread all over the model ;D.

Till I got this result:

Ah, well then...
Don't paint, myself, but did buy a copy; I'd be delighted to ship it over to you on loan to double your pleasure. lol
People who's work I greatly admire have complimented you; revel in it!

Nice try, it was worth it lol, but at the moment I don't want to see a ship, even a boat in the park lol.
Thank you for the kind words :)
-
Outstanding!
-
Fantastic work on the ships. If I had your fleet to play I would probably think well of the game too. :D
-
Really nice work. The rigging brings them all so much more to life :D
-
Thank you all! :)
I have a new ship for you today. Funny (and easy) one:
A phantasmagoric ship, carried by ghosts over the seas. That very concept is great, this was an amusing thing to paint.
The rigging was an issue this time, as it had to look ghostly too.
I only miss LeChuck there! lol
The whole process, as always, can be found here:

Hope you like it :)

I too like Dreadfleet...
Your ships are just fantastic. Really solid work.

Wow... More mini-ship insanity...
I was born many miles away from the next shore, so I have no idea how an actual rig looks like but these ships and rigs look great, all of them.
-
I had not shown the rest of the ships over here. Let me introduce you the Curse of Zandri:

The Flaming Scimitar:

And the Skabrus:

Along with them, here you have some of the scenery:

Project finished! Wooo! :)

Looks incredible :)
They should release that nice sea mat seperately.
-
This game would have sold a lot better if they had had you advertising it!
-
the shots looks really good, I could almost feel the wind in my hair! Lovely picture and - again - well made minis!
best wishes

Great paint.
tt43.

Thank you all! It's nice seeing all this coming along, and I'm so glad that you like it. The shame is that I've only played it once, I really should try to make the most of it...

After that hard work you should indeed ;D. Great painting jobs by the way.

Thought this fit this thread. :D
You make me want to open up my copy. ;D
-
Haha, cool!
I actually sometimes painted with any kind of sea-related music

I wish I had the sense to paint mine before I assembled them- it looks a lot easier. Not sure I can be bothered rigging though, but it does look good.
-
I love this thread but those game pics :o outstanding!
Cheers,
Damien
