The sickness has now entered its final stages.....I'm now booked with my 18 year son on a three week trekking holiday in September to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan! Hoping to visit the sites of at least seven of our battles and almost all our campaigns, and will be mighty disappointed if they've got their terrain wrong!
-
This is great and I am totally jealous! Are you going by the Dali Soapy's airship? I would also beware of Mexican restaurants in the area lol lol

What a coincidence, my wife and I are contemplating (only contemplating at the moment) a trip to Uzbekistan this year. I might wait until you come back before we go.
Actually I have just noticed you're not going until September and if it happens we will have been and come back before you go so I may be able to tell you all about it!!

Right you two! I'm thinking about my present list lol
Enjoy. And we want photos gentlemen
-
Now that's bloody awesome. And probably a bit dangerous ;)
-
Very, very cool. You lucky sod - and your son is even luckier, doing that sort of trip at 18!
Take loads of photos, please, especially of the sorts of features and buildings we need on BoB tabletops - old-fashioned farms and rural buildings, countryside details, that sort of thing!
-
Best of luck Steve 8)
Second the request for hundreds, if not thousands, of photos :D
cheers

That's the bit I'm really looking forward to! Sadly the Leicestershire/Kyrgyzstan 'Yak Air' route was never reinstated after the unfortunate incident involving the fire eater and the paraffin salesman.

Have fun. I have heard it is great there.
:-)

Hi Steve,
Nice trip you have planned!
The centre of the "silk road"
Ofcourse you will see Bukhara Samarkand etc
Of course you will see the blue Gur-i-Amir !!
Have fun and return with much inspiration for the next games!!!!

I got myself there to be honest lol I blame sick watch and puking family members (they apparently don't possess the supreme genes). My question was if Kirgystan was the country whos borders to russia (the total length) was the same length as the distance over the atlantic between the UK and the US. :) And thus, I'm implying that it will be bloody long trekk ahead of you ;)

Lake Issyk Kul will be enough!

This is somewhat reminiscent of the old "Great Game" days. British officers on "holiday" going off into the Back of Beyond on "shooting trips". lol lol lol
So have fun on your "trekking" ;) trip, and I hope you don't run into any Russians on "geological" holidays lol lol lol

The adventure has got to the stage of checking out the firms who organise such trips, just have to go to Italy first to see Pompei etc. That should happen in April or May.

Several of my co workers are from the area, as there has been a large exodus from Wolgagermans in the 80ies. A friend of mine has made a holiday trip to Uzbekistan last summer, the pics she showed me made me very interested in going myelf. Safety was no problem, my friend being a lady near 70. Only thing she mentioned were the horrible WCs, she said even on a hiking trip in Guatemala she had never witnessed such... urgh!

She mentioned digestion problems caused by the local use of cotton oil for cooking, something europeans aren't used to.

Oh Lordy! Hopefully that means bunged up, and therefore no need to use the bogs! lol

OK. In what way does this cause a problem? Too much or too little?
