Title: Amazon Aquarium Decor

I'm sure some of you know about these, but I've only just found them:

There are others but these I liked the best - I've got the first two and they seem pretty solid.

I love the dragon and the snake head – they'd fit perfectly with my Chinese fantasy and Mexican VSF projects!

Thanks for the heads up.

Oh wow, I've never thought of looking for terrain on Amazon.  Thank you for the tip.   :)

There were also some very cheap plastic 'aquarium lawn' plants that make great jungle terrain. I've not seen them so cheap.

Yep, there are some pretty decent deals there -- maybe not the cheapest prices you can find if you really look but still. Would have to get around to making the actual base board before starting with the plantlife tho so the cost thereof is currently a moot point for me :?

I've just taken delivery of d(sqrt(-1)) 's first link. It's really useful. Some photos here with random miniatures to show you scale:

I did a search for Egyptian themed pieces, kind of far and few between.  Roman/ Greek and Aztec/ Mayan pieces seem to dominate Amazon.

I did notice a ca. 20cm long mini-Sphinx there. Didn't look at the price.

Very nice, is that as is was when it arrived Mad Lord? Looks like it can be used as is? Which is good for me as I have things I haven't painted for 25+ years....

Yes, that's how it comes out of the box, usable straight away!

That would be the bonus side of using aquarium decor. Obviously some will want to touch up or repaint their terrain, just as they do with prepainted minis, but I haven't seen a reason to yet.

I saw that too, and a pyramid/ water bubbler.  I was hoping to find some statues of Pharaohs and such.  Those items can be found sometimes in the home goods section.  Buddha figurines tend to be the most common.  Maybe it's the gaming gods telling me to branch out from Chaos in Cairo.

Around Halloween and Christmas there are figure/ building sets that come with hard foam display bases.  These make excellent terrain as well.  Here's one from a Halloween set with some 1:72 scale figures.  With the post Halloween sale prices I'm pretty sure I paid close to $12 for it.

Eco-foam insulation board is good as well, about 2'' thick and comes in sheets 1.2m by 0.5m...got a load as terrain boards...average price around £5 a sheet in the UK.

I picked one up from Amazon.  It actually looks cooler live than in the picture.

Not that I am necessarily seeking historical accuracy in my pulp game but is there any actual historical root to it.  I have a few of the Olmec stone heads but what can this be traced to?  Meso- America, Far east???

An aquarium piece i picked up at Pets At Home...think it cost around £11.00. No additional work was done on this, just buy and play!

this is the Blue Ribbon site

http://www.blueribbonpet.com/

I can't see this one on there but the list was large and didn't get all the way through it  lol
I've seen some other cool stuff on the site though...you need the Reptile decor page not the fishy stuff which is just yuk!

I have quite a few fish tank terrain features in my collection. I really like the ones shown here. I stroll through the fish tank & reptile departments every time I go to the pet store.

(muffled): Yes I thought so, have ordered one will report back.
And this looks great (jumping up and down to show though the bit of glass at the top of the door):

http://www.petco.com/product/118900/Petco-Red-Wall-Asian-Temple-Entrance-Aquarium-Ornament.aspx

but only available in the US and the Petco site does not like UK post codes or phone numbers (ditto their ability to email them to ask why).
So if anyone in the US is reading this and could kindly ask Petco US how I can order one from the US I would be very grateful. Post here or PM me please.

(hot now from all that jumping)

Rolling the curtain over the glass, then lifting the letterbox.........

That looks great for a Samurai game, saddened to see that the paint comes off if left in water, but that's what happens when fish owners buy wargames scenery for their aquariums.... What are they like?  lol

Boxers vs Starfleet...love it
I think I may have found a way to get a couple of these from over the pond
I can see them working in a set up with Jim Bibby's new Chinese buildings

Legal high? Bezzo, if I knew what one was mate......

This arrived this morning:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rosewood-Large-Temple-Ruins-Aquarium/dp/B004FGCXSM/ref=sr_1_48?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1359731025&sr=1-48

Excellent piece of kit and big. Perfect for 28mm.
Well cast and painted (although I may lose the gold leaf detail on the column heads...).
There is full detail on all the outward faces of this model.
Some work needed on the 'interior' of the piece as it is hollow. Easily done though with the insertion of a flagged floor and facings on the inward portions of the columns.
Reccomended

Pets at Home are having a 3 for 2 offer. These were priced at £15, £6 and £5 so I was expecting to pay £21 for all three. At the till they came up as £10, £5 and £4. All three for £15, bargain! I've put some miniatures in the photos so you can see the scale.

Heck, at that price even I might've gotten those and I don't even play historical/pulp games...

They don't seem to crop up that cheap even at flea markets here. Did buy a big bunch of aquarium plastic plants last Saturday tho. Just in case I'll have time to start working on a gaming table sometime in the next 5 years of so :?

It's a plastic one from Games Workshop. I've had them a long time but they still produce something similar:

I think it may be a bit on the small side (being a foot or so long and ca. 8" high total) but if you redo the main door it might work. The problem with the aquadeco buildings tends to be that they are not really to any scale so some features might fit with a certain scale and others not.

I really have to get my act together and start ordering some of this stuff. I'm particularly keen on the Thia jungle ruins.
