Title: Tyranid Hunter-Slayers
Post by: Jonas on February 05, 2013, 09:17:57 PM
Last month I was so lucky to get some ancient Tyranids cheap on ebay. Ten Hunter-Slayers for £1.20. I actually only found them because I was looking for some Zoats. This perticular seller had some Zoats for sale and when I won that auction I decided to bid on some of his other auctions too and so I also won the Hunter-Slayers.

The old Tyranids are a great alien race for 40K or could probably be used with succes in many other settings and skirmish games. I have no idea what I will end up useing these for, but they are awesome classic miniatures and I could not resist painting them for very long.

Here they are:

Hunter-Slayers swarming forth...

Blood Angel marines get some punishment...

You might notice there is only eight in the pictures and earlier I wrote that I had won ten. Well two of them was already painted and are right now in the proces of being stripped. Hopefully they will join the brood in the near future.

I have a fondness for these wee chappys too. I like the pointing one.

This way lads!

By the way, lovely deep red on the RT marines.

Thanks.

These really old Tyranids are my favourite too. I would really like to get my hands on one or to of the Proto Tyranids, which was before these, but I have had no luck to find any.

I have two old style screamer killers that I've lovingly put away in a box for years to come. I don't play 40k but I imagine that tyranids are the easiest to adapt when the inevitable new codex gets rolled out again...and again...and again..

Phew..a quick proof read of my post saved me from calling them tyrannies.  lol autocorrect.

I don't really play 40K either, but I really like the old models and the fluff...

Sometimes we play a bit 2nd edition in my gaming group, but mostly I don't play anything and these days I just paint what I like to have most fun out of the hobby.

I love the old school tyranids. I have a couple of painted up screamer killers. Ugly but fun miniatures. I think my favs are the 1st incarnation of the hormagaunts. They looked like the aliens from alien.
Great work on these hunter slayers. They look almost like some sort of undead tyranid.

I always thought these looked kind of undead too, with sunken in eyes, skin shrunken over bones and ribs. So I painted them up to look like dried up mummies or such.

I did see some other pictures online with similar schemes and I think it fits the models.

When the two last ones are stripped from paint I think I will try to add a bit more colour variation and give one of them green hoses, those between the guns and backpack, if it looks good I might go back and do it on these too.

Your case is also mine, Jonas. Last time I've played in recent times it's been RT, and I must say I enjoyed it way much more than any game in 3rd, 4th or 5th ed (haven't played 6th nor that I intend to). I'd like to play 2nd ed again.
But I still paint and I really enjoy seeing people who bring these old models back to life. They look pretty damn good, both Tyranids and Marines. Nice job!

Ahh, the days of Hunter-Slayers and Screamer-Killers. Lovely work, I've got a few lying around I keep meaning to incorporate into a Genestealer Cult.

But the Genestealer Cult only has Humans, Genestealers and Hybrids... When the Tyranids arrive the Cult is absorbed.

I know, but I have literally no other use for three lonely hunter-slayers!  :)

Just paint them and use them in skirmish gaming as encounters or similar.. or use them in the cult  ;D

The Pointing one always makes me think of standing in a lift pressing the buttons.

"Which floor again?"

The simple colours are very effective. I won some in a batch and they are multicoloured and look terrible. Repaint me thinks.

I like to keep it simple.

I do have two more waiting for paint and I plan to try and give them a bit more colour, letting the cables be green. Then I will see what looks best.
