Title: Looking for a giant....
Post by: Imp522 on 13 February 2013, 02:08:05 AM
Okay Laf'ers I'm looking for a giant to go with my orc and goblin army.
I've ruled out GW, Reaper and Otherworld(Extremely nice figs just not the image I want)
Ideally he'll be at least 70mm tall and won't break my bank(Hoping it'll cost me $30 shipped or less).
Less human looking the better.
Suggestions?

Ramshackle games, very cool and very different, check you their giants:

There is always Ral Partha.  Has several different giants, at about $9 to $12 each or so.  Here are some examples.

Heroclix giant size x-men frost giant, maybe? Occasionally you can find one for a rather decent price on ebay. Actually looks better than the pics suggest.

In the crouched position he's in, the whole miniature is ~ 8cm tall, so standing up he'd be even bigger.
He's glued on and plugged into the icebergthingy, but that shouldn't be that hard to remove (not that I've gotten round to doing that with mine yet).

I would have said reaper Krug hill giant chief. He's my home invader defence mechanism. Throw him at anyone's head and they'll be out for the count.  lol
What about some large troll miniatures or ogres.

Go for something different:

I have it stored somewhere myself, one never knows when one needs a giant :D

I guess I'm the first one to ask, if Reaper doesn't have a giant for you in there somewhere, what is the image you want? :)

A lot of the Reaper giants have a Wayne Reynolds quality to them which might not be for everyone. The rest are fairly human looking, except for the ones by Tre Manor, which once again have a certain exagerated comic book quality.

What are you looking for, Imp? Feral? Chaotic looking?

Speaking as someone still waiting for his Wayne Reynolds art book to arrive, I can't sympathise much.  ;) :D

More feral looking, the lesser they look like big humans the better.
The reaper ones aren't bad just not what I want for this project.
Ramshackle aren't bad.

I love Reynolds too, but not in miniature form. =) His illustrations are ace though!

This may sound crazy, but have you thought of Papo plastic.  The Orc warrior looks pretty brutal, and at about 90mm (and a fairly robust 90mm at that) would make a pretty intimidating non-human looking giant - carries a stone-headed axe.  Can get him for under $8.

@ Glitzer very good looking giant, will keep it in mind for the future.

@  Franz_Josef Interesting idea, any idea how they paint up?

They are dense but bendable plastic - prepainted like the Schleich figures - but can also be carved. I've had considerable success with this type of plastic toy for my mumakil, so I don't imagine this would be any different.
