Hi All!
So this is not only my first foray into miniatures sculpted by manufacturers other then GW but also my first post on this forum!
So be gentle with me...
I have the entire range and internets worth of miniatures and what do I choose to start my experimentation? Zombies of course!
Ok So I chickened out a little and went for something relatively easy to start with.I'll paint some more interesting stuff once I man up a bit! :D
Any CC is more than welcome, heres the first batch....

They're very gruesome - but my guess is they're supposed to be!
I can't offer C&C as I've never painted a zombie like that in my life... but the bases are very nice.
-
Thanks Red Orc! Yes, the more blood the better IMO! :D
No time like the present to get on the zombie bandwagon bro! I've got to say, painting zombies is just so much fun as its so much easier than normal painting!
You can be as sloppy as you want and then cover it in blood and no one is the wiser! ;)
Plus, there are some amazing zombie models out there with a lot of character, so lots of fun!

Welcome to the forum! :D
Nice paint work! Can't say I paint many zombies, but I do sculpt them! :) My painting isn't the best, but you seem to have done a great job! *thumbs up*
-
You have got some skills...those zeds are very icky!
I fell off the GW band wagon a few years ago and haven't looked back. Zombies are a good place to start.
-
@Rovanite
Thanks man! I would love to see some of this sculpts. Any chance of a post?
@Rob_bresnen
Thanks for the kind words bro. Given how easy they were to do I'm really happy with the results. I'm certainly not regretting broadening my horizons. Got a few pretty cool survivors on the way!
-
Welcome to LAF and nice work! I stoped buying GW a long time ago and haven't really looked. There are a lot of other great minis out there, often at much cheaper prices.

All pics are on my website: http://www.grekwoodminiatures.co.uk/ They'll be in the miniatures area (drop down menu).
They aren't as gruesome/torn up, more like fresh zombies, but maybe gruesome ones will follow at some point :)
I haven't been sculpting long, so I lack experience when compared to others!
-
@joekano
Thanks man. I still love GW stuff and I think I'll still mostly paint that but the change is nice. Especially given how different each manufacturers miniatures 'feel' if you get what I mean. As far as prices though, some of the best (studio, infinity, horde) are still up there price wise.
@Rovanite
Popping over there now. I'll let you know what I think man!
-
@Rovanite
Great work with the sculpts bro. I especially like the silent hill models. The armless sculpts are particularly dead on! Keep it up!
-
Cheers Deadspace1! :)

Time for some pictures if the living me thinks!
I just recently finished a couple of survivors to do battle with the shambling horde at some point.
What do you think?

Some close ups...
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/12/7406_27_02_13_10_37_31.jpg)
I imagine this guy as a green, untested army recruit who uses his limited theoretical knowledge to the max to survive!
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/12/7406_27_02_13_10_36_19.jpg)
This guy used to be an airbrush mechanic in a garage (hence the bright, re appropriated breathing apparatus) surviving by hiding as best he can.
Over the last couple of days I've also expanded the scope of this project to include more 'feral' survivors too.
I'll show you what I mean once they're ready!
I'll maybe put up some different angle shots if anyone would like to see them! :D

Time for some more Zombies!

I really enjoyed painting these guys as it's so simple to paint Zombies effectively.
I'm looking forward to getting some more, especially after the disaster that is the Wargames Factory Zombies. :-[
I think maybe some Studio sets may be on the cards. What do you guys think?
I have a load of other stuff up on my blog too;

CC would be very welcome as I always want to improve!

Welcome aboard! Like many others GW priced me out a long time ago, but there's sooooo much cool stuff out there once you break free! The zombies look great, it's one of the few times you get to paint messy on purpose! My only minor advice would be to find a more matte sealer. And as far as blood goes you can't beat the wonderful effect you get from Tamiya Clear Red!
-
The survivors look cool, who makes 'em?
-
@ goon3423
If I'm honest with you mate I haven't sealed them at all at the minute. Since the blood effect turned out pretty much just as I wanted it I didn't want to mess with it by varnishing them. Of course, if these become anything other than display models I may pay for that later! :?
Not tried the Tamiya Red. Is that the stuff that dries hard so you can make it seem like its dripping etc?
@ Scurv
Thanks a lot bro, OTT is exactly what I was going for. I think I may do some really desiccated, dry Zs in my next batch to spice things up a bit!
@ Wilkins
Thanks man! The first guy (recruit) is one of the Copplestone Scavenger Scouts. I cannot find the guy with the gas mask to save my life though! If anyone has any ideas I would love to know because I imagine they come from the same place as a couple of the Zs I have and I love the sculpts (the Z missing an arm and the girl in the night gown). If I could get some more I would love it! :D
-
Found him! He's from a game/comic series called Z War One. Can't really find many miniatures for the game and the only Zombies I can find are the ones I already have :? Oh well, c'est la vie...
-
now THAT is some repulsive zombieness :D :D :D
-
Great work. Good to see you've expanded miniature companies. Some really great minis out there that aren't GW.
You should check out the stickied topics at the top of the future wars and fantasy threads to see other manufacturers. :)
-
There's a sticky in post apoc showing zed manufacturers, should help. Take a look at my zed thread if you want to see how the various companies look side by side.
Cheers.
-
I really like that Mechanic Guy, nice pose. Who makes him??
Oh Yeah, and your Zombies are dead cool....
Didn't read the Whole thread :)
-

Cold war miniatures mate.
-
@ Gun Bunny
Thanks bro, exactly the desired response!
@ Beefcake
Cheers mate, it's been fun painting some different stuff with different character. Checked out the sticky and even though I've seen quite a few of them there are soooo many more for me to properly peruse!
@ Commander Vyper
I'll check out your thread soon man when I get a chance. I strangely haven't checked out the sticky on post apoc. Another thing on my to read list ;)
@ Not Yet Dead
The model is from Z War One actually. It's a game that's based on a comic / game / story / thing. Don't think they produce the models anymore actually as there only seems to be one set out there. If anyone can find anymore I'd be greatly appreciative :D

Here's my latest progress toward getting some sort of survivor band finished. I've started painting the awesome Lead Adventure 'The Last Heroes' set.
All the minitures in this set are incredibly detailed and hardly needed any cleaning up at all!
Here's my first anyway...

None other than the Omega man himself, Dr Robert Neville!
I've tried to keep the colours as similar as possible to the Will Smith version in I Am Legend.

How did I do?

How did I do?
very recognizable paint work( this is meant only as suggestion/ comment) have you considered a lightening of flesh tone so that a wash on the head might be seen as the stubble from a buzz-cut?(curious) :)
-
If I'm honest I really struggle with dark skin tones and it was all I could do to actually get it looking as it is. You're definitely right though. Maybe I'll revisit him after I've done the rest and see if I can get him his stubble on! :D
Any suggestions on painting darker tones? I've still got Eli to do from the set and any suggestions / advice would be really welcome.
-
Nice work!
Not sure you'll go back to GW now...
-
I think GW still has its place but I'm certainly not going to be purchasing anywhere near as much as I used to from them. There's just so much more out there! Although I'll probably just end up spending more money on models :?

only way i find is to use a piece of card as a palette and hand mix colors (doesn't always work but i have gotten some cool colors before, also write down your color amounts for reuse later, i do that ...now :? )

:D Agreed! :D
Dr Neville looks spot on.
-
Yeh, I already do that but I use a bathroom tile. Reusable. Saving the planet one piece of cardboard at a time! As for the notes, if I don't write stuff there is no chance if me remembering so that is done and done. Cheers for the tips though!
