...and vehicle. There'll be lots of these posted over the next few weeks I'm sure - not least the nice job rwwin has done with his troopers and 'Mule' on the forum here - so I thought I'd play about with the versatility of the trooper and accessory sets and of the medium Mark has chosen (IMHO so much better than that plastic /resin stuff) and do a few conversions. The seated figures and the trooper about to board are all minor conversions and the one standing on the cargo bed (missing his 'binoculars') is basically 'out of the box' with additions from the accessories set. Shoulder guards have still to be added and the heads are loose to allow painting seperately. A few, very fine mould lines to remove then its cleaning and primer.

there's a couple more pics on the blog (apologies for the inferior quality) if you're interested http://dwartist.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/wip-eisenkern-5-man-squad.html

Looking good. What have they been cast in then if not plastic/resin?
-
good, old-fashioned plastic! same as GW...
-
Nicely done. The sitting guys and the guy stepping up look great. Where is the vehicle from?

He's referring to the new garbage material that a lot of companies have been embracing...like Defiance Games (that new Studio McVey game I think as well etc.). It's a crap material which doesn't take glue well, is a huge pain in the ass to work with, and generally sucks. >:(
All hail good quality NORMAL plastic.
-
Ah, Dwartist beat me to it! I've been working up a similar conversion using a Halo Warthog as a base.

Good stuff! Much easier to work with.

Haha - trying that too - figures don't sit so well on the seats! Looking forward to seeing what you do!
@cholly - vehicle is Antenociti's 'Bear' topless....

Nicely done David. Nice distraction this am. Catch up soon.

Mine didn't fit with the kit legs either, the warthog seats are reclined too mcuch. I cheated and used a pair of legs from the GW sentinel pilot. I had bought a bunch of those bits when I bought the warthogs a few years back to make some guard conversions but never got around to it. The GW part doesn't have the same thigh armor, but I think I can solve that with a press mold.

Did you take the warthog apart? if you do you can remove the floor of the seating area so the legs have enough room...

Yes I took it apart, but there looked like a lot of material that needed to come out (and I'm lazy) so I again cheated and just cut off the feet! You can't see into the foot-wells on the finished model. Here's a pic of the driver so far.
Like you I found that the base for the quad AA gun from the heavy weapon set fits very neatly into the cargo bed, but I'm kind of itching to do a guy firing an MG from a pintle mount, then I can reuse the ammo can and belt.

Sweet work. I think this looks really good but one thing is bothering me.
The trooper sitting down has his gun pointed at the trooper's chest who is climbing inside.
I know I know, it's probably the nitpick of all nitpicks but military and police units world wide teach muzzle control first and foremost.
Again, overall I think this looks great and I cant wait to see it painted.
-
Maybe he just doesn't like him? ;)
Nice work, look forward to seeing it progress. :D

Beautiful, but man she has a serious case of man-face going on. lol I'm guessing she doesn't get by on her looks.

Dwart,
Awesome paint work so far (as usual).
One question if I may, and I realize this has probably been asked a hundred times but I couldn't find the answer, so please forgive me:
What brand(s) of paint do you use?
Great work. Look forward to seeing more.

Driver...had to use a new bottle of the base colour, Vallejo London Grey, and it's lighter and more matt! I quite like it though so will go with it. Driver's not quite finished and his head is not positioned permanantly yet.

Wow. Sitting figures that actually look natural! PJs great as usual but to see decent sitting figures is quite rare. Good job all round and I will attempt to copy shamelessly!

Congratulations on the very appealing PJ for Your figures and especially the vehicle. I would love to have the skills to do it that convincing - thank You for sharing it with us.
There is a slight "however"
I don't want to insinuate anything when manufactureres make and customers like to buy miniatures that are inspired by the uniform of the German army in WWII. I aknowledge that it makes sense to imply militaristic societies by this, so far OK for me.
The skull in the shield on the vehicle however is very clearly the badge of a military formation belonging to an outlawed nazi organization. The symbol is not only banned by German jurisdiction (here is a link)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch_section_86a
but also identifies a unit that was initially formed by the guards of concentration camps and that has quite a record of breach of laws against humanity.
I very much hope that the use of this badge on wargaming miniatures is only an insensitive mistake and misunderstanding, because I cannot recognize anything related to the depiction of history here.
I very much hope that noone who has seen this badge "in action" will ever be confronted again with seeing it in such a context, whether physically or on pictures
-
My apologies if you're offended by the badge (this thread has been viewed over 3000 times on LAD and this is the first time the issue has been raised): I chose the decal, from a Machinen Krieger kit, for the colouring (yellow background) to contrast with the various greys and never gave the imagery a second thought. The vehicle and soldiers both represent imagined futuristic designs and the only connection to the historical events you refer to are wholly in your imagination. Thankyou for your kind words about the models themselves; I have taken on board your comments and I'm quite willing to paint out the offending symbol if others are of a like mind to yourself. David
-
...I've painted it out. My apologies if the unwitting use of the imagery upset or offended anyone; that, of course, was never my intention.
-
I've removed the images that showed the offending emblem, it does break the rules as far as displaying Nazi symbols on the forum go. Having the emblem on the actual vehicle isn't a problem but showing it here is. The usual solution is to block it out on the picture rather than the model. The problem isn't that it may offend someone, rather that it breaks the German law that this forum must abide by.
I apologise for the late action, I've been absent or I would have picked it up sooner.
-
I am sorry if I may have sounded too harshly.
I am indeed surprised to find out that such a symbol is used so nonchalantly (by the manufacturer, not by the user) and I have to admit that these fine details of German law about Nazi symbols may not be as obvious as swastikas and other symbols. Generally everything recalling the units of the "Elite" organization should be avoided, and the two runes especially.
I understand that the manufacturer offering these decals might not have been aware of this.
It is sad that there are such events in human history that force us to be constantly aware, but I think it is necessary not to forget.....
However, I would like to return the focus to the good painting, please......
-
No problem former user - thanks for the 'heads-up' Interestingly it was as I researched the symbol after your comments that I realised my error but was surprised to find that the image is very visible on numerous websites including the very Wikipedia article that discusses its ban!
-

Websites are fine if they are not hosted from Germany, or if they are working toward a clearly documentary or educational purpose.
Apart from that, lovely work on the camo and weathering.

I missed the original kickstarter - anyone got a pic of the original command set in metal?

The metals were released sometime before the KS and weren't included (the new releases all being produced in plastic). They are OOP at the moment. I used this head because the selection of heads in the plastic accessory set does not (at the moment) include side-caps and the peaked-caps don't fit well in the suit.
Edit: sorry, forgot the original metals were a KS too. There's a render of the command set parts on Mark's cooliris at the bottom of the page here http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.co.uk/

Nice. Where is the suit from?

Ah, thanks. I hadn't seen one in the buff before. Luckily I've got two coming with the kickstarter.
