Title: 1/48 Warrior from Airfix
Post by: Hobbit on 15 March 2013, 02:43:20 PM
I may be behind the times...but I've just spotted this as an upcomming release:

http://www.airfix.com/airfix-products/new-for-2013/military-vehicles-and-dioramas/a07300-bae-warrior-148-a07300/

There are a few other bits of modern British kit on the way too inc. quadbikes and vehicle crews.

Its £22.

Imprint do one in resin for £20. Admittedly it hasn't got the cage armour on the sides, but I am going to bet it will be a lot more durable for gaming.

The Imprint one IS really nice - I had a good close-up look at one last weekend - plenty of weight. BUT it is always nice to see new kits.

It's the quad I have high hopes for.

Eureka and Empress both do quad bikes for 28mm. The real gap in the market is an Ozzy Osbourne crew figure.

I got to have a look at a completed one of these yesterday at a model show - Airfix had a stand there where they were previewing some of their upcoming releases. I didn't see any indication of when it will be released, but it looked like a production kit not a pre-production mock  up, so I suspect that it will be out sooner rather than later.

First off it was a very impressive size - it is a BIG vehicle, probably substantially bigger than the Imprint version.

The 30mm Rarden looked like it might be a little fragile and might need replacing for clumsy wargamers.

It APPEARS that you get a basic Warrior and then that the additional armour packages can be added on on top of this up to the current bar armour package.

this is seriously starting to tempt me into going modern or near future

if Airfix continues to expand their Afghanistan range
the pep text for the Warrior already mentions the 7 variants....
man....

anyone tried the coyote and jackal kits?

Wasn't IPMS at Cosford was it?  I saw it there too, very tasty. Meant to ask about chances of a BV/Viking but forgot  o_o

Looked like the Bar armour was plastic like the rest of the kit. Quad bike said to be an end of year release, so not as soon as hoped. I asked about the possibility of some opposition for the Brits, but was told they weren't sure if that was the 'right' thing to do. Guess they don't want the wargaming £ after all  :?

Maybe...I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you...and rumors that I live only 10 minutes drive away are completely untrue...

Ipms is usually at Cosford, been once, enjoyed it, haven't had chance to go again

But this I am desperate for, can't wait to get one when able to afford it.
