Title: Mila and the Giant Worm
Post by: d phipps on 18 March 2013, 12:00:06 AM
My daughter and I started on our Giant Worm model today. Although slightly larger, it is based on some pics that Anpu posted on the Pulp Alley forum – http://pulpalley.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=366

We'll definitely be using this in our Pulp Alley games, and Mila suggested that it will make a great "Lagoon Terror" for our Perilous Island campaign.

First we sculpted the mandibles with sculpey and baked them. Then we drilled, attached some wires, and did a little more shaping…

Next we formed the body out of aluminum foil, attached it to a big metal base, and stuck in the mandibles. At this point we also weighed out how much sculpey we needed to balance it out properly...

Then we covered the foil with a thin blanket of sculpey and shaped it -- adding a few armored segment-like layers...

Then it went back in the oven, and after 30 minutes - out pops a GIANT WORM!!! ...

Mila is gone for a week, so I’ll probably just primer it and let her do the painting when she gets back.

We're certainly not "sculptors", but this was a fun and quick project we could do together on a lazy Saturday afternoon.  :D

THANKS!

Dave

Nice job, very inspiring.  Hmm, break out the sculpty, or wimp out and order from Acheson?   Decisions, decisions.

Fantastic!  I am wondering in my mind how to do the teeth for a giant purple worm.

Pretty amazing work here guys! I'm impressed with what you managed to achieve on a 'lazy Saturday afternoon'!
He's pretty big, ain't he? I don't think he'd look out of place on the planet of Dune.

Cheers
