I trying to jump start a stalled project to build some ACW ships and fortress bits in 15mm. The ships have been (slowly) moving along, but a sand fortress came and went. I plan to resume work on a new version of a sand fort and am starting some planning work on a modular masonry fort.

This is a Union "double-ender". They were large 200ft or more ships that were literally 'double-ended' and had a bridge and a single large gun at either end. Some models show these with what look to be furled sails on the masts. I believe the masts were actually just derricks for loading on and off the boat. The sail-like structures may have been canvas duct work that was strung up to direct fresh air down into the ship. I also do not believe the guns could fire directly fore or aft, but had ports on each side to fire off on an angle. This model is semi-scale, but roughly 1/120 so one inch is ten feet. The model is over 20 inches long.

Also a close up of a big gun project. Some of the 'double-enders' had 11 inch guns fore and aft. (This one is a bit big!)

15mm ACW ironclads! You are insane, and I salute you for it!
Looking forward to seeing how the double-ender progresses.
You'd need to rent a school gym to play a game with ships this big, surely?

CSS Arkansas, a Confederate 'David" and a Union torpedo boat.
Some wood, some brass, a couple of figures and lots of Evergreen Styrene!

One more new boat here, the balloon tender Geo. Washington Parke Custis. I have since found some better references for this boat, and the balloon is looking a little small so I don't know if it will see much progress.
There is a beautiful model of this ship in the Mariners' Museum in Newport News, VA.

Also a couple of details of the 'double-ender'. The deck (as with the Custis) was pre-scribed wood sheets. This was sanded and varnished smooth, then masked with masking tape. The sides of the ship were built in Evergreen plastics and then sprayed the base colour. At that point the masking tape was cut along the edges and peeled away to reveal the deck. Regards, Rob.
