Title: new releases from Vitrix
Post by: powerfrog99 on 24 March 2013, 11:21:00 AM
Hello gents,

in the latest Wargames Illustrated I found a Victrix advert about their new release of napoleonic Hannoverians and british light infantry. I am a bit astonished as I just do these with their separately sold metal heads and back packs.
I wonder whether this will be new plastic sprues or metal additions in the boxes the way Warlord do it?
Is there some more information or rumours about this topic available?

Also I am waiting for some French artillery or cavalry from their side.....

cheers Thomas

They annouced these quiet a while ago. If they stick with their inital info from early 2012 or late 2011, these will be all plastic.

I really wish they gave out *some* information about what they're doing with upcoming releases. Their now total lack of information really disappoints me, though I will be picking these up when they come out, and will now hold off buying metals to fill my Hanoverian needs. Lucky for them I wasn't in a hurry. Definite news about the cavalry and artillery is also a little :( That's assuming there is news any more to tell.

Gosh I sound grumpy. Just itchy for releases!

The same advert mentioned movement trays for infantry and cavalry (if I remember correctly now, got the magazine at home), are they to step into cavalry soon ?
I’ve seen some pictures of 3ups from some years ago but I think that maybe they got cold feet when Perrys beat them to it, haven’t heard anything from it since then.

One of the pictures looks like French artillery to me, or are that a convertion from their British box?

And as 14th brooklyn said, these will probebly be all plastics as they sold all of their metal ranges to concentrate on plastics some time ago.

They should really update their homepage more often. Maybe show pictures from their demo games and more pictures of their painted miniatures.

Im considering what my next French unit is should be and as I love their other boxes hopefully Salute will reveal some of their coming miniatures.
Until then I guess I can manage with half a box of those lovely early French line.

They have French Atillery in the pipeline. The only thing holding things up are the numbers of calibres and gun models (An IX and Girabauld) as well as foot & horse and line and guard and how to combine those options into as few toolings as possible.

Their home page in the beginning was full of plans and schedules that never really showed up....

I think they are more careful now with outlooks, but no informatin is a bit frustrating  :(

So wait and see

I think they got caught out with rapid expansion right before the GFC and had to restructure and realign the business as well as stagnating releases to become more economically sound. They are a very small company with few emlployess.....if you look at their overal catalogue including Naps and Greeks etc then they have a very extensive product offering.

Will be interested in seeing their new/future releases.

I know that Victrix and Perry are not depicting exactly the same period of the Napoleonic wars but I wonder what’s really missing in plastic? French Artillery would be nice indeed but what else do we need? What would be the things that you think are missing in 28mm plastic?

French chasseurs of the line cavalry for one. Very handy and not just for the French.

Dutch/belgian line, jagers and militia (seriously these guys made up quite a significant chunk of wellingtons army, so where are they?).
Marching British (similar to Austrians so you get firing as well)
French artillery.
Waterloo marching French (again like austrians)

And although no real need, if they did boxes of 50-60 Russians and Prussians, I think people would happily buy 50-60 for £20-25, even over Perry just for shear quantity.
Then they can do plastic artillery for them.

well if the 3d sculpting process allows them to crank out more sets faster, I'm all for it!

Looking at the link I think that the exaggerated features in the computer generated sculpts are OK - easier to paint.  I have been painting Victrix and Perry British Napoleonic infantry recently and I have to say that I way prefer the Victrix heads. I love the mutton chops and character in the faces.  The Perry ones had a sameness.  But...I forget that most miniatures are used on a table and seen from 3-5 feet away and who is looking at the faces anyway :)

Kingtiger on my laptop with Windows 7 it doesn't work too, my desktop with XP does the pitures nicely. Mayby a setting in the windows or so?

Brian, I totally agree on the Victrix heads / faces, even the metal ones were a bit like that.

So this year looks really thrilling for all people who come to liking the Victrix style :D

I'm gonna need some of these since I had the very bad idea to base my French WSS figures on individual bases :?
