Post by: Luddite on March 25, 2013, 07:40:45 PM
A recent couple of games between my Saxons and a friend's Pictish Sea Raiders.

Some nice 15mm figures there.  Seems you've got the hang of the rules.  We've found that Leadership Points can make a unit very hard to kill if you allow 3 LPs to be used in defence, so we're restricting it to 2 LPs, as the book suggests...although last game I did get a barracking for forgetting to restrict myself to 3 LPs!

They're 28mm, mostly Gripping Beast and Black Tree figs.

Aye LP use is key, but if you focus them on one unit, your opponent can kill everything else.  I find 2 on a unit is enough in most cases and spread them out to give general survivability. :D

Sorry, I don't know why I thought they were 15s!  My mistake.

Agree that using a variety of LPs is handy.  I'm experimenting with using them to interrupt movement of enemy units.  It strikes me that skirmishers could find this useful, to be able to run away when charged, but I've not had much luck with it yet!

Well, as the author says, skirmishers aren't really skirmishers, more 'low quality light troops'.

I find they're best used as flank support.  Keep them behind a combat unit and pop out to give a cheap flank bonus.  this probably only works if you use the optional rules forcing a unit to fight to its front where possible.

Other than that, skirmishers really are only useful for facing other skirmishers.

The 'evade' move i think is a waste of an LP, and can only be done if the skirmisher didn't shoot.   :?
