That's a lovely looking table :-* :-* :-* :-*
Vietnam?
Why the strange shape (blue sky board at an angle)?
-
Its two pics stiched together and the sky is on the wall both ends of a 5`x 8`.
There are three downed helicopters on the board so a bit of a grave yard, these hamlets are listed as friendly and the hill and the hamlets with the coverging streams are a common land mark on the helo`s route,no radio comms ever came from these crashes but something isnt right ,two platoons of B Company are flown in on a search mission from firebase Earleswood.
Here is hopefully a better picture:

CONTACT AT THE THREE HAMLETS
There are three downed helicopters on the board so a bit of a grave yard, these hamlets are listed as friendly and the hill and the hamlets with the coverging streams are a common land mark on the helo`s route,no radio comms ever came from these crashes but something isnt right ,two platoons of B Company are flown in on a search mission from firebase Earleswood.
The LZ`s listed were the optional landing points for Company B
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v233/alcal/Vietnam/Contact%20at%20the%20three%20Hamlets/IMG_4259acopy_zpsd6111137.jpg)
All seems quiet and the villagers seem at ease with the oncoming helicopters.......
The slicks came in two at a time with the first pair landing on LZ1 (1st Platoon)
And on LZ 2 (2nd Platoon) this helo landed within a couple of hundred meters of one of the two .50cals AA tripod mounted , after some amazingly poor dice throwing by me the slick pulled up fast and veered off leaving 8 grunts to take on/engage /assult the .50.
The next wave dropped another squad (2nd Platoon)that started to flank it by heading for the small village to its right but they also came under small arms fire from the huts and immediately engaged this threat.
And the third squad (2nd Platoon) on LZ3 again falling straight into contact from the tall elephant grass across the stream.
1st Platoon was fairing no better as the squad on LZ1 jumped onto booby traps (pungy steaks) Spike through some great dice(well in my eyes :-P)and put six out of eight men out of action !! The next stick was right behind them and landing in the same place,as all the radios were with platoon HQ(still in the air) all the grunts could do was signal an abort with smoke.
Communicating in the air, Company HQ re designated the rest of 1st Platoon to land at LZ4.On there final approach and hover the second .50cal opened up,this time my dice were better causing a heavy damage and casualty fig and a rules result of land at next closest friendly LZ this was LZ4.After Spikes poor spotting/expertise rolls left me hidden and able to pick of the next helo in(ya there spending a lot of money here arnt they).
The 9 man VC cell in this hamlet and the jungle line between it and the .50 engaged the squads in the paddy giving the .50 two turns to dismantle the gun and head out . Company mortars were engaged with this force from Firebase Earleswood but they all broke contact and dissolved into the jungle without 1st platoon finding any body`s or blood trails.
Meanwhile 2nd Platoon was living of some good luck ,they wounded then pinned and killed the 3 VC in the village , not in the mood to argue with the villagers who had been farming under fear of execution , they rounded them up for relocation and pulled out there trusty zippo`s..........
The last hog to land on LZ3 carried platoon HQ and there new LT (yeh he is popular ) the squad that had been engaged from the elephant grass had put paid to the 6VC with two wounded taking a nice flight back for interigation. This squad now headed up the hill to reach the casualties from the booby traps.
The .50 Main Force crew had crawled through the brush and now made a break for the jungle and a sure escape if reached(they did).
1st Platoon tended its wounded and waved in the first of three medi vacs.

And it begins!
The eye-candy in your posts is just just amazing.
I always look forward to your updates, they are always so lovely.
Back later for the words and another dribble!

Lovely looking game, thanks for the photos.
-
Great stuff, Alcal.
:-*
How do the Charlie Compant rules work for hidden enemies etc.
Do they create enough suspense and paranoia?
-
Really great stuff Al- knowing your work I bet it is even better in the flesh.
Cheers,
Pete. :)
-
Wunderbaum!!!! :-*

Hi Al,
absolutely wonderful stuff, as per usual. I particularly like this pic, it has that iconic 'wind blown elephant grass with landing Huey' image we all know from the movies down perfectly - I was immediately humming 'Paint it black' when I saw this :) :

A fantastic game, very interesting to read the AAR; thank you a lot. The rice fields are very nice too!
-
It's great to see you back in Vietnam alcal.
I saw a link to this on Fields of Fire Reloaded, the Vietnam wargaming website.
Your layout for Hue has been an inspriation to me for years. Now this is just as cool. I really appreciate your taking the trouble to post this with all the photos and the AAR.
I hope the guys who get to play on your terrain and with your figures fully appreciate (and express that appreciation) how truly fortunate they are.
Tom

Great looking game.
A few things I've been looking at recently are making me think this would be a good period to get involved with.
