Once I've accepted and internalized I lack of any focus when doing my projects, I live with more inner peace :D. So I just do whatever I fancy to do at the moment.
I also lack of any sculpting skills, so I'm decided to work a little on that. An easy project would be doing some small conversions on cartoon characters, so I thought it would be fun making Fry, Leela and Bender.
I got a couple of minis from Hasslefree, 'not Scooby Doo's Fred Barney' and a 'female armature'.

Some green stuff later, they looked like this:

This is of course pure scratch:

And once painted in their dazzy cartoon style they ended up this way:

You can see it all here (with some more explanations), fleshwads! :D:

Well, bite my shiny metal ass! Those are fantastic! 8)
Leela especially is pure awesome, well done.
-
Great miniatures - very well done on the conversions and the scratch-build.

-
Brilliant stuff, especially Leela
-
Awesome!
-
Wow, they are great! Good job!
Are you using them with some rules or are they only for the vitrine?
-
Thanks, pals! :)
The pics are absolutely [censored] Ehm, I mean... loathsome. I know I always say the same, but the minis look better when in your hands.
I wasn't planning any game for them, made the minis just for fun, but for sure it would be interesting some kind of foolish cartoon-action game ;D.
Oh, sure any of you already have some ideas...
-
I was thinking on some Ganesha games, they have the potential to become cartoonish if you play a bit with the character´s abilities (There are some good funny ones in Kooky Teenage Monster Hunter) ...I don´t know if there´s a futuristic one, but one setted in the actual era could work as well ;)
-
They're fantastic, both the putty work and the styke you've painted them in.
-
Magnificent !
:-* :-* :-*
-
Very nice.
-
Bloody marvellous!
-
These are great!
Now hurry up and make Zoidberg and the professor.
-
Brilliant!
:-* :-*
-
Thank you all! :)
-
Wow :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Brillant ;)

We Want More!!!

Respect due for a job well done
-
Nice work! :-*
I have eventual plans to do a Futurama crew myself, so these are an excellent inspiration.
-
Whoah, I wasn't expecting this reaction! :) I am aware of my (very) limited skills, this is nothing but a humble attempt of learning how to use green stuff to do these things. Your kind words are much appreciated :).
I currently have a lot of work & commisions (and that absurdly busy RealLifetm :D), but you are encouraging me to look for a foolish ruleset for them and to make more characters!
-
Far out! :D
Those are really cool! Now you know you need to do the rest as well of course... Come on; you know you want to. Do I have to say the magic word. Ok then: Zoidberg! lol
There; if that doesn't convince, I don't know what will...
Ooh; I know! I still have a huge Thunderbird 2 toy lying around, for conversion into a Warhammer 40K (30K) Stormbird. But the shape is also a perfect base for Futurama's Planet Express ship! 8)
Now get cracking, you mad genius! ;)
-
don't cut yourself short on the sculpting skills.
these look great.
-
I've been wanting to do this for so long. But I can't sculpt. You have done a marvelous job. When's the Planet Express ship going to be done? :D
-
Those are great!!! maybe you can convert Hasslefrees Old woman into the professor
-
Surely one of the Crooked Dice scientists with a decent head swap would be good for the Prof?
-
Hahaha, don't mess me uuup! Hahaha! :D
I've got tons of pending work still to do, but you are really tempting me to come back to this... I'm really glad you like the project, thank you all! :) :)

I stumbled across Bin Weevils (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bin-Weevils-Bots-Collectable-Figure/dp/B00ASDMFWA/ref=pd_bxgy_k_h_b_cs_img_y) in Sainsbury's after reading this thread.
The reason I mention it is that they do a passable Bender (not as good as the scratchbuild here :-*), but they also do a bunch of other robots that would be very fitting for a Futurama setting (I'm planning on having them running about my science fiction games)
The figures are hard plastic and look like they'll take paint without any great problems. There's some copyright information printed on their lower back, but it should sand off with minimum effort.
The only real irritation is that they're "collectible", so you have to buy a sealed bag and hope (unless you buy them from places like the link above), and they're between £1.50 and £2.00 per bag.
There is a website http://www.binweevils.com/. Whether it's suitable for viewing from work is up to you :D

:D
Looks like there is still a lot of world to explore about this area...
-
I'm glad I found this thread - they're great! I love Bender, he's my favourite :-* but Leela looks very good too.
Can't wait to see more in the future-ama! ;D
