Title: Newcomer to the field o' battle
Post by: MajorTalon on 19 April 2013, 02:44:01 AM
I just ordered FoF, hoping to start some games in 28mm for it at my FLGS. What manufacturers would you guys recommend for Generic US, Russia, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and maybe Militia types?

Hi Major

Imho 28mm is probably not the ideal choice for gaming with FoF! If I could I'd scrap my 28mm stuff and opt for 20mm instead due to the better variety of miniatures and models available.

However, for 28mm you need to look at the following UK manufacturers (I'm not so hot on US made 28mm moderns I'm afraid!):

The Assault Group
Newline Design/Mongrel Miniatures
Eureka Miniatures
Gripping Beast Miniatures/ MoFo range

Cheers

Jules

Here in Saint Louis, MO, I would have to disagree.

I, based on second hand observation of games around town, find 25+mm is the Magic Mantra for modern gaming locally (especially skirmish) with 20 mm a distant second (20 mm is very popular for WW2 however.)

Edit: I must also add 15 mm for the (?) Flames of War (?) group is significantly present too.

I think either 20 or 25+ mm is viable for Modern gaming.

Gracias,

Glenn

Who games in 6 mm and 3 mm for larger battles (usually 1680 - 1913 for land based games)

I'd say 20mm has far more variety without a doubt. Though 28MM is definitly growing, it still remains far more specific (mostly based around wars in the Middle East/Africa such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, though some nice Chechen/Russian stuff does exist and Mongrel have some nice Cold Wars figs from various conflicts)

Of course check the lists at the top of the forum. But I'd always suggest 20mm hands down if you want more options and variety.

I realized afterwords that I basically just asked for another list topic. Sorry guys. ;D

I'm crazy like that. It also seems I may have to go with 28mm, although I do like the Empress minis, as well as the Red Star minis. ::)

Force on Force got here, and I also have a copy of The Battlefield, courtesy of VoodooInk. Now for the miniatures. *Looks at Empress website* Soon.

*Looks at Eureka PMC* You as well.
