Just to let you know, at Salute today, Michael Perry was previewing the first 3-ups figures for TWO new late medieval plastic boxed sets - foot knights and light cavalry. He said he's hoping to have them out within the year, as they have less in the plastic pipeline at the moment.
Very exciting - although also slightly concerning, because at this rate I'm never ever going to be able to stop building and painting Perry medievals! Just when I think I've done all the permutations I can think of, along come another two new sets with (no doubt) lots of gorgeous new components, weapons, helmets, heads, and poses to seduce me into another entire round of building and painting!
Aaaargh!
;)
Oh yeah - there's an ACW plastic artillery set and AWI continental infantry coming along soon too.
And the 8th Army figure are brilliant. Can't wait for the Afrika Korps :)
-
Woohoo, then it's true what's been whispered at Tactica earlier this year. I saw the first dollies there, good stuff all around. :)
Slightly off the Medieval topic: Any word on when the Afrikakorps box is to be released?
-
Actually, that's the one thing I forgot to ask him! (But I'm pretty sure they've already said they'll be out in June).
Bumped into Frank at Salute - that was a nice surprise. Wasn't expecting to see him there :)
-
A whole box of plate armour. o_o
Cool!
Thank you, Captain.
-
Yay! 8)
-
They look great too.... really do!
Darrell.

By late medieval, do you mean War of the Roses? :?
-
Amazing and wonderful news :D - does anybody have pictures?

That era, yes - also suitable for European Armies 1450 - 1500 I guess.

I'm sure some will surface shortly. Michael said he only had a couple done so far, but seemed pretty confident about pushing on with them quite quickly...
We shall see... ;)

-
Perrys already working on WW2 Italians for the desert I thought?

But only metal italians and as a god startup plastic is fantastic...

Just back from Salute - the new Perry 3-ups dod not disappoint (these two seem based on 'Beauchamp Pageant' illustrations I think?).
Pulled a couple of pics of the camera. The 'Light Cavalry' look very useful with arm options as crossbow, mounted archers and coustillers/standard bearers.

Will post pics of the Cravant HYW game later this week
Simon.
Darrell,
Off category (so forgive me ) - your 8th Army diorama on Perrys stand was great!!
-
ah fark. I'm doomed.
-
I had read on someone's blog that the Perrys were releasing new boxes, excellent to see a little preview.
Best get saving now.
-
I thought we may get a few more metals, but this? I am going to have to re-plan my painting schedule to ensure I get these into my collection. When he say 'within the year' I do hope Michael means calendar year. I also hope there will be standard bearers options included, if not I'm sure they will prove adaptable to become such. Guess I'm just painting bills and bows for a while, leaving some gaps to be filled later.
-
Excellent! Thanks for posting chaps,my fantasy knights project may yet continue :o
-
Absolutely fantastic news...... :D
-
Super news! Although I had hoped they would make knights of a slightly earlier period to enable me to build some Grand Compagnies men of Bertrand du Guesclin. But let's see what content will be in the boxes ...

14th century knights would be nice.
But it is better if they finish off the ranges that they have already started.
-
Honestly I was surprised to see them. Given that they have made a lot of metal foot knights for the WoTR range - maybe 50 or so metal figures. But obviously Michael believes there's a market for more - perhaps for the modellers amongst us :)

When you spoke with him Richard, was he aware of your work?
-
Yes Steve - and yours. He said he'd enjoyed seeing pictures of our WOTR battles on LAF - very complimentary about the conversions and the scenery. Which is nice :)
We'd better do another one ;)

Plastic Desert Rats are now Available and we now have PayPal!
Desert Rats 1940-43
28mm Hard Plastic figures
A complete platoon can be put together from the box with HQ section. There are also 18 heads with Arab headdresses and cap comforters that you can use to convert the figures into SAS or Long Range Desert Group.
There are 38 figures, 32x 20mm circular bases, 4x 40mm square (for support teams) plus notes of platoon organisation in the box. The figures are hard plastic and 28mm tall. They’re intended for gaming in the Western Desert, Sicily and around the Mediterranean as well as potentially Burma in 1942.
The code is WW 1 (yes, I know, it’s a bit odd!) and the price is £18 +p&p.
Also when you buy 3 or more plastic sets you will receive a FREE Monty and Brigadier!
We also have a Bren gun carrier and the first of the WW2 Italian metal codes available.
Over the next few days you'll see the first of the amazing 1/56 scale Blitzkrieg resin tanks designed specifically to go along side our WW2 range. These will be available in early May from Blitzkrieg and ourselves. There will also be pictures of our next plastics (shown at Salute) and large resin figure. Six new Retreat from Moscow codes will also be up this week with Napoleonic Austrian artillery and caissons following up.
............and by popular demand we now have PayPal !!!
All the best
Michael Perry

I think the price is the reason. Plastic is definitly cheaper than metal. And for the big battles you need a lot of tiny soldiers...
And for the guys converting stuff it is easier with plastic.

Oooh that is nice :D
And yes we have to do another - if I had a deadline then I'd work towards it :D ;)
I still have a fortified manor on my radar but also need to finish more foot.
I also fancy that 1943 Sicily project I mentioned to you - a lot less minis though lol
-
Boy the Medieval period is just awash with fantastic minis (and yes I'm a fan of nicely priced modular plastic sets). I don't even game the period, but I'm tempted to start...
-
Plastic ACW artillery :o yeeehaaa!!!
-
Oh, boy... :-*
Haven't even finished building the last box, have no need for these... Still going to buy them... o_o
-
Haven't even started the first box yet, and I'll still buy them........ :'(

That's the spirit Rob lol

Looking forward to them already, nore plastic to play with :D just like when I was a kid.
-
Finally paypal! :D

There is now a Plastics Workbench update on the Perrys website, post Salute.
Pure speculation but, we know that the Afrika Korps will be next set (around June 13?).
I would assume that either the ACW artillery (guns and limbers frames are already tooled) or AWI maybe next - partly as Alan tends to sculpt faster and maybe that it's his 'turn' to release a plastics set (..am sure they really don't plan on that basis, by the way!!)? These could be Sept/Oct 13.
Therefore....we could just be looking at one of the late medieval boxes by end of year?? A Christmas present to look forward to perhaps... :)
...now which one of them would it be...?
Musing is great, isn't it... ;)
Cheers
Simon.

Ooooooh yes please! Foot knights for Christmas... :D

That sounds like some sort of fetish......

Do I really need more WOTR figures - especially as I'm going to buy a box of the original figures shortly to make up an individually based retinue for Wardlaw's 40th birthday game next year.
The sensible answer is, of course, No - but I'll buy them and find an excuse for them. At this rate I'll need another figure cabinet just for my WOTR figures. :D

That's the correct way of looking at it IMHO :).
Can't ever have too many Late Medieval miniatures around :D.
Darrell.

Can hardly wait...my christmas wish goes fro the plastic "light" hores set, want to build me more mounted crossbow men for my Kalmar Union War project (http://dalauppror.blogspot.se/search/label/Kalmar%20Union%20War) and I just love the "Swedish" style helmet on the 3-up, looks quite much as some of the ones used by the Swedish Allmoge soldiers in the Paul Dolnstein drawings...
Sorry for my Swedish focus ;)

Swedish Allmoge Soldiers 1502, drawing by the German Mercenary Paul Dolnstein
Best regards Michael
-
But it's GOOD Swedish focus!! ;)
-
Do you know if they are planning any with Half Sword fighting poses? I was pleased to see the Master Thalhoffer sword stance in one of the sets... Either way it is bad for everyone's bank balances I suspect!

If I'm not mistaken then I think I'm correct in saying that the chap in full harness on foot is tarrying with a bastard sword.
Darrell.

I'm referring to the longsword technique where the blade is gripped in the left gauntlet to thrust with greater power and at close quarters as well as a whole system of blocks and thrusts with the pommel and quillons as well as the centre of the blade... all equally nasty!

There was a couple in the Mercenary box as you know. Who knows what will be included in the box??? ???
I think I'll drop Michael a note and suggest more of the same. After all, it was *one* of the most powerful thrusts used in the melee. He may even be reading this :).
Darrell.

I should not have read this. ;D
-
Ah, more Perry medieval goodness! I look forward to your build project!!!!
More boxes that will find their way to my painting table!!!! ;D
