Both great entries...excellent free hand on the Vikings shields...and the ramen ooze character...who makes them?

Cheers,

Love those Ratmen! Actually they are called Ratscum and are from Grenadier.

I've said it already, but this round is a killer! And these entries again are a tough choice! This is the forth time, I opened this window to finally decide it!

I can't really say, what gave the final push, cause I am not much into rats, really. Maybe the shiny glaze with the saxons? So ... I like rats more, than gloss? funny thing. ^^

best wishes

Thanks - this was more or less my first attempt at freehand. I usually use the Little Big Men transfer for larger forces. Since there were only a handfull of figures, I decided to give it a shot.

The gloss is entirely unintentional - it's the varnish I use. Way back, my brand had matt varnish that was really matt. A couple of years ago it seems that they changed formula and now the matt varnish is satin (same product code). I haven't found a matt varnish locally (since I use spray-cans, mail order is not an option).

That being said, the ratmen are excellent and (to be honest) better than my saxons. The Gripping Beast sculpting style is a bit  too 'soft' for me. I'm not a good enough painter to bring out the best in them.

ooooh! I hate, when they do THAT!!  >:(
Same here with a (once upon a time) superb matt spray ... they changes something but now it isn't really matt anymore. grrrrrrrrrr
And they ALMOST ALWAYS tell, that it is for the better of ... whatever ... mankind. But - wtf - I want the GOOD product BACK!!!

We are united in missing the good ol' matt-versions - cross-country and ... cross-product  :D

best wishes

Those are our Ratmen, Figouze does our painting for the shop - www.forlornhopegames.co.uk

Both these are really good. If I had to choose it would probably be the Ratmen (not being biased). I just love the mail and little touches. But as I say, both great paint jobs.

Another two good entries. The detailing of the shields and the clothing of the Saxons is very nice, well done! But those ratmen look lovely as well, with all the different and vibrant colours... What to do...
