I've decided to embark upon a Dune project, not based on the films but more on the book. I am struggling to find figures to represent the Fremen. The nearest I've found are;

I'm not 100% happy with these but they hopefully give you a flavor of what I'm looking for, i.e long robes and a desert/arabic feel. Thanks in advance!

MAybe some Haqqislam from the Infinity range? I don't know if they wear robes though.

Isn't there someone on this very forum making exactly what you need?

Thanks both of you for your speedy responses!
Twrchtrwyth: That thread was something that inspired me to start my own (albeit smaller) Dune project but that new line of miniatures is drawn almost exactly from the film. They're very well done but I prefer the look from the book than from the film.
Cherno: The Infinity stuff is very nice but they're not in robes and they carry a HEFTY price tag.
Still open to suggestions!

How about Sand Wars from MJ Figures

I have quite a few but not had chance to paint them up. The worms are fantastic.

I used to use these old Necromunda figs as Fremen Stillsuits back in the day: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1120111
Obviously weapons need converting, but they served my purposes.

where in the books does it say robes? I don't remember.
I found the movie suits very convincing, even though I did not like everything from it
-
Ironclad Sanwars maybe?
Though to me they are more "Tusken" ;)
Curious what you'll find in the end :)
-
To be honest I don't remember either, but that's how I imagined them in my mind. Similar in fact to the Bedouin or other desert people. The frequent references to jihad and living in the desert was what made me picture them this way. Also I imagine a tight leather suit in the desert is likely to get very hot, very fast lol
Interestingly I just read this on the Wikipedia page for Fremen
"See also:
The Tuareg people of real-life Sahara, who bear many resemblances to Dune's Fremen. In the own language, the Tuareg word for themselves means "Freemen"; this may or may not be a coincidence."

Oh, forgot to add the link lol

Thanks, they are my new favourite I think. Saw them at Salute and completely forgot about them! Would need some work on the weapons I think but we're getting closer!!

Can't give you a page reference :) but the book does say they wear loose cloth robes over the stillsuits.
... see now I'm tempted to go look for a page reference....

What about Pig Iron:

I believe You - it is a long time ago I read this but usually I remember such stupid details ;)
-
Does anyone have a size comparison picture for the MJ Sand Wars Giant worms? The one rearing up is perfect for a project I'm working on, assuming it's big enough.
-
Pretty sure the original book covers showed the Fremen in robes. That might be where you got the idea from. (Plus they are obviously Tuareg based.)
If they are book Fremen, then they carry swords (technically, kris) and so do their opponents.
-
To be honest with you, I'm also taking some inspiration from the old school PC game too. I think that was one of the first games I ever played and to be honest, am sorely tempted to try dig it out today! Also wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what I could use as an Atreides ornithopter? This project is turning out harder than I expected!

Van saar gangs from necromunda are obviously fremen they got the suit, they got the beard, what can you expect more? :)
-
I also got them and they are the closest to the movie you can get. a few Infinity miniatures fit too, though more as youths.
But if You want them robed, it's Your choice.
As Ornthopter You could probably convert some Da Vinci flying machine kit, forgot who makes them. If You want to stick to the moving wings thing

What about GW Eldar rangers with headswaps? That would get you bodies with close-fitting combat suits covered by a cloak. The bodies are more like light armour than a leather/plastic/rubber suit, but they may work for your purposes.
