Does anyone know of any? My google-fu did not provide me with any leads, other than that Honorable Lead Boiler Comapny used to make them. :? Any help is much appreciated! :)
Thanks,
Jim

Closest I've ever seen are some pewter ones done by a Wyoming artist for the tourist trade. I'll try to keep an eye out, I think the general store at Old Faithful had them last fall.

Best I can find with a quick check is Mega Minis male deer: http://freeboardgamesnow.com/animals.aspx
Of course, it is 25 mm, not 28 mm. Next check was Irregular miniatures: http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/indexes/25mmindex.htm
Their stag can certainly pass muster as an elk if you can't find anything better. Again, even though Irregular is now billing this as 28 mm, I think they used to be "25 mm." Can't speak to that scale for Irregular, but I know their 15 mm figures are on the larger end of that spectrum so maybe their larger scale figures are as well.
Afraid that's the best I can point you towards. Remember, Mega Minis requires very quick action since they are selling out and going out of business. Hopefully someone picks up the animal range - with parallel anywhere I know of.
Check here to compare the two sculpts above with images of "real" elk:

Good luck with the hunt.

Try O-gage Model railroad deer.
-
maybe Schleich animals?
-
Either Reaper or Ral Partha or Rafm (I can't remember which) did a pack of North American animals which certainly included deer.
-
Northstar do a Moose which may suffice..alas, no picture on webpage.

Cholly

Also try different combinations with "moose".
Other than that, I have to echo the alternative of a stag, this time from Eureka Miniatures:

Ral Partha did beautiful animals, also Reaper, but no Elk/Moose
-
Found the Ral Partha one:

Is that close enough for you?

Thanks for the responses everyone! I think I may look into the eureka one. Sadly, a deer model seems as close as I'm liable to get. Elk are pretty huge so I was hoping to use them as mounts for my fantasy nomads, may think about converting horse models instead if the Eureka stag isn't big enough.

Steve barber models has a gigantic deer in their prehistoric range may be good to go
Acheson also have some types in their historic range

This hobby never ceases to amaze... Moose fee gawds sake... Some one wants them and a range of people do something you can use for them Brilliant
-
Lionel does a set of O-gage scale carbou. There is a set of deer at internettrains.com.

these are cool
I might even buy 1/48 caribou for 28mm moose, but the antlers would need a heavy GS job

I'm not sure how you guys managed to latch on to the whole Moose thing, it wasn't even mentioned in the first post! Elk (and Caribou) are part of the deer family. A 1/48th scale deer is probably large enough to masquerade as an Elk.
-
Heisler, what we call a moose here in the US is called an elk in Europe, an issue on an international board like this.
-
Well, I guess that makes more sense then!
-
still, even with without the lingual misunderstandings, elk (Cervus canadensis) is the largest species of deer in the world, although moose/elk (alces alces) is even larger
and they have totally different body shapes and head/antler proportions, not to talk about the antlers themselves than reindeer/caribou (rangifer tarandus).
it's like substituting horses with donkeys visually, even if one uses different scales
I think prehistoric deer might substitute for canadian elk, but probably not megaloceros
