I'm busy painting up stuff for my SSS box challenge (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=52928.0) and even though I already have a thread I thought I might make another one detailing the finished stuff.
First up here are some survivors I've painted while I'm waiting for my parcel from miniatureMOJO to arrive.
I tried taking the photo with a (In my view suitable) black background but it had the unforeseen effect of making the snow completely bright!

I'm going for underexpressed colour here. Very greyish and so on... I even painted the skin less vibrant too.
I will try to retake the photos with a different background later, but for now this will have to do.
-
Really captured the bleak color scheme of Sweden there lol
-
Very nice work mate, love the details on the trousers etc :-*
cheers
James
-
Great looking figures - very bleak and desolate!
-
Am disappointed - as you must be - that your parcel hasn't arrived yet. It's definitely overdue .... I'll pm you. :(
On a more positive note, lovely - in an understated way - painting.

-
Phew! That's great news.
-
Great painting Dr.The Viking, the Father and son from the road are a great set. You have painted them well. Do you remember who the manufacturer or supplier is.

The Road figures are from Lead Adventure Miniatures

Yay! The first of my miniatureMOJO sss figures!

Had one hour painting time while my wife was at training.

Looking very suitably depressing and dreary...well done.
Blue

Very well done indeed 8)

Doh! Didn't see your question there mate. Sorry! :D
They're LAM for sure, yes. The two other (black background) are RAFM and everything else is and will be miniatureMOJO.
-
Very nice job on the LAM Figures, Looking forward to seeing the SSS figures painted up ;)

Hey Brummie, the Crazy Viking has posted some on his project thread here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=52928.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=52928.0) :)
-
What the silent invasion said! lol
I'm going to finish the painting before I base the lot. I'm not reaaally happy about my snow bases. I think it worked better in 15mm and I want something a bit more dirty or sludgy in 28mm .
-
What are you using for snow at the moment?
-
What are you using for snow at the moment?
A mix of Games Workshop and Heki glass shards
Not on this piece though, this is pure NaHCO3 :D

The apocalypse is the great leveller.
Once you were filthy rich and rode a porsche. But then one time you did it in the wrong place at the wrong time. You got dragged out of it screaming, shot in the head and left to burn.
Your assailants ran off in their rags with that bag of crisps and the GPS they killed you for.
-
That's dramatic!
I really like the way you've painted the wreck. 8)
-
Very cool mate 8) 8)
cheers

Too kewl for skewl :D

Nice! (if that is the right work for a burnt out wreck with skeleton!) lol

Finally got them based and so on...

Sweet!
They look right 'proper' now, they do!
:-*
That wreck looks bloody great, too.

One question: Why is this in another thread, it is becoming difficult to keep tabs on you, you Crazy Viking!
:D
-
One question: Why is this in another thread, it is becoming difficult to keep tabs on you, you Crazy Viking!
:D
Thannks mate. :D
About the threads. It's really easy, actually:
I have one thread for my SSS box challenge, where I show Work In Progress and so on. Then I have this thread where I show the finished work. This thread will also continue after the box challenge ends.
Same can be said of my general WIP thread - it shows what I'm working on (none SSS wise) and when I finish stuff I put it in the relative folder here. The point of the WIP thread is mainly to do a bit of back and forth web 2.0 style while I'm painting the things.
Hope that sorts it.. lol
-
Yep.
That does it very well.
8)
It is easy to confuse me sometimes.
Please be gentle.
:D
-
WOW!
Fantastic style!
-

Thanks mate!
-
Great work. I really, really like the burnt out Porsche; top job!
-
:-* :-* :-* :-*
Thats spot on you Crazy Viking. A lovely bit of terrain. Though to be honest, I thought you would make it more 'silly', perhaps a bit of "yellow snow" as locals mark their territory. ;D

Hmmm... Well that's how it goes I guess.
BUT!
I had a nice trip to BLAM and it sparked my interest in the Post Apocalyptic freeziness again. Summer really killed it, but now that things outside my window are starting to look as bleak as the figures I intend to paint the inspiration is back.
Luckily, today, my wife drove off with my work case and, well, I was left alone with nothing to do after having installed a few new obligatory programme packages kindly supplied by the evercaring work-producer that is the University. I hope you like it! I'm trying to 'dull' them a bit more than the ones I've done prior to these.
Also I think I may have figured out how I want to do my housing now. :D
Next up are a couple of wolves, a cart, a sleigh and some frozen stiffs.
I expect SI to send and bill me for the winter troopers as soon as he releases them. ;)
-
Bang on, Ya Crazy Dude!
Love the new 'autumn' colour palette.
Proper dirty and gritty!
:-* :-*
Sending your wife off the work stuff was a seriously cunning plan, too.
:D
-
Ah CV, welcome back to the foray. it's good to see that The Pappis box of frozen goodies lives. lol
Agreed with mason, that is a very nice colour pallet. It makes a big difference. (I prefer it to Steve's - don't tell him) ;)
Cheers
Matt.
-
Really quite smashing... I went with an even more vivid palette than Steve, my thought was that these were regular folks from a place like my hometown. Most of our 'winter gear', or I should say the best stuff, was for skiing... hence brighter colors a la ski wear...
That said, I really like your gritty realism and muter colors. Brilliant!
-
I have just noticed the snow on the girl's knees...... ::)
Naughty Viking!

I did too but I had the good taste not to mention it! :P

Many apologies, O Crazy One.
I should have realised that someone with such refined tastes as yourself would never think such a thing.
Consider me chastised.

We are not allowed to mention that any more.

Apparently so did she ;D

lol
Nice work Dr T.
Very bleak...... More Road-like, proper grimey :-)
The Facebook page gained a lot of new followers today, many of whom were from Denmark .... Lots of interesting names (put me in the mood for a bit of Sofie Grabol :D)

Yes it seems my followers suddenly all decided to join your page. Most of them are actually not from Denmark though. :D
I added a link to a large version of the image in the post above so you can check the painting more thoroughly.
-
Well, when Thorbjørn points you in a direction, it's usually a pretty good indicator that "this might be interesting to follow"... so one usually does :)
-
Great work. I love them. Will you change it for a second try with my unpainted????
-
Great paint jobs Dr, though I note the lack of bright purple parkas!
I read through your blog and I have decided to follow your regime on projects. No longer will I flit between projects like a bee passed out of its tiny mind, I will pick 3 and work on them until at least one is complete. I thank you for your guidance! :D
Now I just need to pick 3, which is going to be bloody difficult.
-
More than 3 projects is really hard to manage. I had the same idea. So I will also look for my three projects. One is SSS.
-
Now I just need to pick 3, which is going to be bloody difficult.
lol
Good luck, mate!
-
lol
Good luck, mate!
Maybe I should just get you lot to pick three?!

it is simple:
1. All miniatures made in Europe
2. All made in America
3. All made in the rest of the world

Great brushwork. These poor guys look to be in a very crappy situation.
Beautiful stuff.

Managed to finish a few children of the night... what sweet muuuusic they make!

:o
Those are bloody gorgeous, mate.
The best woolif colouration that I have seen for a long time!
:-* :-* :-*
-
I will leave the heckling to the last wolf Dr.V, I'll hair have to praise your tones and Steve's nice sculpts.
Cheers
Matt
-
Wow, great. I recognize the three wolves. Is the rest from the german shephard blister???

Strangely close to my approach to geography,
1. Is British.
2. Used to be British.
3. Should be British.
4. Should be underwater.
:o :o
lol
-
Lovely work DrT..... And you appear to have done some head swaps that have come out very well..... I can't quite tell from my teeny tiny phone ! 8)
Darn, I'm going to have to redo my quick paint job! :D
-

No the two on the right left are mega miniatures actually!
-
Dear Dr. The Viking,
any change you can tell us mere mortals how you painted those wolfs...
That way we (I) can steal the colour palette and claim it to be ours (mine). :D
Just stunning wolves :-*
Cheers,
Za

Haha! Yeah sure! I kind of just work on the spot and don't take notes, so forgive me if it's not exactly the same:
I googled 'wolf' and found this:
1) I started out priming them black
2) Painted them P3 Bastion grey all over
3) P3 Hammerfall khaki (khaki colour) on the lower parts
4) P3 Menoth Base (cream colour) on top of that
5) Vallejo Ivory (off white) on top of that
6) Dabbed the whole thing in thinned sepia wash
7) touched up the grey parts with Vallejo Fortress Grey (light grey)
8) touched up the whitish parts with Ivory again (diluted)
9) Painted black wash on the ridge of the back to the head
10) Wash the mouth with red, added white teeth (whitest white you got - I use Humbrol there)
11) Painted the snout with black
12) Painted the visible eyes with black and a yellow dot, other eyes just got a black line
Hope that hels or if not, just gives an idea of the palette. I probably applied mixed layers between 3/4 and 4/5.
-
:D Thanks this helps a lot. I will try it for myself.
Cheers and thanks again,
Za

When mum had left to see what was over the ridge she'd told little Annie to wait by the trolley and 'guard it'.
When mum hadn't come back for the night little Annie had cried her eyes out.
When finally something came over the ridge it wasn't mum.
It was 5 sleek grey bodies chasing down the hill.
*Note: I used an 'automatic contrast' on the image as it was really hard to tell the blue from the blue otherwise. So in all it looks a bit better than IRL I think.
EDIT: Horrible amount of errors in small amount of text!
EDIT II: Obligatory blog link to more images and details: http://clovermilk.blogspot.dk/2013/11/little-annie-and-wolves.html

lol lol
Methinks little Annie won't survive the next bit of text ;D
Great figures mate, you really are getting better and better 8)
cheers

Nooooooooooooo! :o
You do set the scene very well! ;) :D

Very good. Hope you will do SSS at the "Do Or Dice".

I certainly will if it's done but then. :)

Why doesn't she turn the shopping trolley upside down and hide in it? Save yourself Annie!
-
Where'd you get the shopping cart from??
-
Where'd you get the shopping cart from??
There's this shady business called www.miniatureMOJO.co.uk that supplies me with all things sinister.
Beware of the guy who manages it though. It's been told that he's got a predilection for cannibalism and working on reviving corpses! o_o o_o
-
I think Steve may have taken it off the list because I'm pretty sure I have everything he's offering... hmm... jammer!

Ooops meant to link it too:

-
The way little Annie is giving the seated howling wolf the evil eye, I actually reckon the wolves might have bit off more than they can chew.
-
Huh, wonder how I missed it! I'll have to get a few the next time I make an order :)
Cheers!
-
Ok, I'm giving your wolf technique a go on my SAGA berzerker cloaks. I 'think' it came out ok as a test go... I'll post pics soon...
-
Bloody brilliant, CV!
:-* :-*
I have no fears for Annie.
Have you ever seen a small child in control of a shopping trolley?
Lethal.
Call the RSPCA, cos them wullifs is in for a HARD time, is what I reckon.
:D
-
I love the wolves- and the survivors are great- very cold looking.
-
I can't keep up with my 'post something once per week' scheme any more it seems. lol
So this 'week's post:

I figured that a few people would've died before it was the actual apocalypse so here are a few deadies.
Couple of bend over zombies between miniatureMOJO dead. The Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town would have walked out during the freeze and just frozen in the mid of the action.
And while we're at it, why wouldn't a proto shoggoth join the party?!
-
Someone spilled the soap powder. =)
That's an awfully nice painted Proto-Shoggoth mind you. I guess its poking its friends and wondering why they won't play any more (play being screaming incomprehensibly). ...Hey you went off topic, I'm just following the trend.
Aww, but the poor old dear. You evil git. >:D
-
How nice would it be to pool out SSS toys/gangs, etc and have a big game?
Great showing as always Pisan!
-
I can't keep up with my 'post something once per week' scheme any more it seems. lol
Stop with the beer then you daft bugger lol

The Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town would have walked out during the freeze and just frozen in the mid of the action.
Might be possible. I heard stories of Finish troops (Sissies ?) during WW2 who managed to slit the throats of Russian guards and due to the freezing cold the bodies would remain standing, appearing to be on duty ...
-
lol lol lol Icy dead people! lol lol lol
-
lol lol
The stiffs look... Stiff, well done. Perhaps you could paint a stiff disheveled dog CV for the old dear to have been walking ;)
-
Those are very creepy and moody I love them!
The shoggoth looks awesome too!
You always do great work!
-
Love them! :-*
-
Looking bloody good, CV!
Love the upright granny, clever.
:-* 8) :-*
I think that you should have an elk in there at some point.
Dead or otherwise....

You have to do it, CV, you simply must.

A crashed Santa's sleigh with zombie Santa elves? Perhaps Santa got stuck up the chimney and had his legs eaten by zombies? It would mean changing the song though....
"When Santa got stuck up the chimney, he began to scream"
