I like your scene Brax, great colors and the composition of the set up really draws me in. The field is lovely!

There's a story behind that... I shot this scene and submitted it a week ago, and noticed a few days after that I had forgotten to paint the teeth on one horse! I decided I should 'do it right' and as much as I hate the photography process I finished the horse and redid the scene. I wondered if anyone would even notice. There's some things better, some things worse in the second attempt.
When Overlord confirmed receipt of the second shot, he mentioned most people wouldnt bother with horse teeth anyway. I think they're easier than human teeth ;)
This unit might not have ever gotten finished, it's all thanks to the LPL. As some of you may know I did the first six last year, and I didn't like the lances... A little too short, and too thick. I planned on pulling them out and giving them new lances when I finished the rest of the troop, and kept putting it off.
When I was pulling out the old lances a couple weeks ago I had one that was stuck, I was ferociously pulling it with some pliers when it came free and pierced my leg through my denim jeans... sharp little devils :o

yeah, right! You blew it completely! In the lower picture one of the horses (the one to the right) is grinning right into the camera! :D
I BET that's the one with the new teeth, eh?
best wishes

I think it was the second from the left on the bottom pic, the one that looks like it's smiling :)

Gorgeous work on the lancers Matt. And the Zulus actually. Nice skin tone :)
Braxandur - you are unlucky to have come up against the reigning champ on top form. Your rebs are really well done...

Tell me about it! I wake up every Sunday morning wondering if this is the day the doctor lights me up on the LPL....!
Funny story about the horse teeth, doctor. Earlier this week, I photographed rounds 4, 6, and 7. It was only after I was done assembling them, inserting the close ups, and submitted Round 4 to Paul that the I realized the source of the strange "soft focus" haze in the center of the pics. I though it was maybe a byproduct of my new light box. No. It was a fingerprint on the lens of my camera. One of my students took some shots of our medieval dress up day for me and obviously smudged the lens!
So, I guess if you can go back and re-paint, I should go back and re-shoot those two entries before I submit them....

Well Dr. you've left me in awe again as well! Lovely action scene with gorgeous painting and beautiful photography! Are these the Wargames Factory Zulu's? I doubt they ever looked better 8)
Braxandur, your rebels left me impressed as well! Lovely neat painting and nice subdued colours. The scene works well as a whole too 8)

The Zulus are the Warlord plastics. I have a couple boxes of the WGF Zulus as well, I just haven't painted them up as actual Zulus yet. Truth told there's some things I like about each set and I'm eager to see how they paint up in comparison to the Warlord ones.
Thanks for the comments all, appreciated.

Those Empress sculpts really do come alive with some deft paintwork, hard to believe they are not 54mm.

No harm there, I can and will never be ashamed or mind losing from an entry that makes my jaw drop to the ground when I see it. Brilliant work Dr. Mathias, Love your entry entry. :-* Thanks to you I do feel the need to get some more zulus though... ;D
I'm already happy that people like my fellows as much, espcially since I managed to accidentely use an aerosol primer instead of varnish on their backside :'(
These guys don't have that many nice angles anymore that I can take shots from lol

+1
The difference does'n really reflect how close both entries are.
A hard contested round.
Best wishes.

Great job Dr. I really like the blue/black color of the uniforms.
Braxandu, good use of natural lighting for the scene.
