Back in the day (read before I found LAF) I had a small project of Space Orks that I was planning on using with Killteam rules, but play them as Imperial Guard. Well, as so many of my projects, it stalled quite drastically and the bits have been waiting in a box for some time. Now, one week ago I found a Tamiya 1:35 scale M151A2 kit on a second hand market and of course I had to buy it, if for nothing else but for possible bits. Today lighting hit me and the pictures below show the first ride of the Blood Axe Clans Long Range Raiders. Ruleswise, if I ever end up gaming with it, it can be a normal Ork wartrak if using Ork rules and it is good replacement as Tauros Venator, being of same length as the FW model.
Anyways, here are some pics of the new ride.

Sorry for the double post, I just had to glue few of the chaps and place all that are ready so far on their "bases" (washers topped with sliced wine bottle cork (clever, innit?).
Here's what I got so far:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/somob_zps4ff854d8.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/somob_zps4ff854d8.jpg.html)
Here's squad 1 sarge (2nd from left) with demolition doctrine trooper (leftmost), RPG (counts as melta unless I decide use him in the squad one as missile launcher) and flamer: (http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/sos1sargetroopers_zps8fd09673.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/sos1sargetroopers_zps8fd09673.jpg.html)
And here three shotgun wielding lads from squad 1, three more to go:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/sos1shotguns_zpsca1ea58d.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/sos1shotguns_zpsca1ea58d.jpg.html)
Squad 2 sarge and two normal troopers:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/sos2sargetroopers_zps6c65ad05.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/sos2sargetroopers_zps6c65ad05.jpg.html)
And two snipers from the squad 2 (yes, Ork snipers trust more the 'spray and pray' method :D ):
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/sos2snipers_zps589dc0e0.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/sos2snipers_zps589dc0e0.jpg.html)
Still need to finish the squads, 3 shotguns for squad one and 1 special weapon trooper and four normal troopers. Then need to do company command squad and three commissars. Then the small force is ready except for their transports - perhaps one tracked (Chimera stand-in) and one flyer (Valkyrie stand-in).
C&C welcome.
-
Rather ecelctic, suitable for orks 8)
The transport looks promising but I'm not too keen on the bases, any paticular reason why you choose this route?
Are there Kromlech parts in amongst this lot?
cheers
James

The cork bases should, hopefully, provide a suitable basis for rock/desert ground type. I shall still cut those up, add some sand and dry flock and see how they look afterwards.
The orks have bits from GW (new Orks and OOP plastics), Krommlech, Tamiya, Lego, Victrix (Napoleon era backpacks).
-
Lovely, Poco! :-*
Look forward how this project proceeds :)
-
So charmful and lovely!
-
Thank you gentlemen, glad you like them.
Here's few pics of what I got in the pipeline:
Four almost ready to go:

RTO trooper for the command squad:

Five semi-ready... I think I am running out of arms for them, need to check various bits boxes:

Same chaps, backside pic showing the variety in the backpacks, the Victrix stuff is just perfect I think:

That jeep looks so LRDG/SAS...it is screaming for some of the old school Ork Kommandos!
lol
-
Grand idea.
Do you have a driver who fits in there? I'd say a gob-sized model should squeeze in. I had a hard time trying to fins the Lego bit until I say the black gun barrel right in front of my nose... :D
-
Lovely thread Poco, and cracking work :-*
-
Elbows: I used to have quite a number of those old skool Kommando boyz, unfortunately none left :/ But they were the original inspiration for this project. I think as a tribute I shall paint the wool beanies in red for the Long Range Raiders :D
Vanvlak: Don't have a driver yet, was planning to purchase either Wartrak or Warbuggy and use the that driver, should fit as the original kit is 1:35 scale. Correct on the Lego "silencers" on the sarges' pistols, I think they just make the guns go DAKKA! louder than without them :D
Blackwolf: Cheers!

Heh, good one :D :D
The driver - might be a tight fit - they have big feet for a 1:35 scale fit. The driver has the steering wheel of the Wartrak moulded in his hands (can be removed with some work, of course, but probably easier to go for a new set of arms).
Looking forward to see the colours used here. Red ones go fasta; LRDG pink ones go - uhm - stealthiah? >:D
-
Thanks for the info on the driver, didn't realise it had the fixed steering wheel. I guess it could fit, at least with some cutting and reposiotioning though?
The LRDG pink is an excellent idea... I might go for the Orky version on it and make it true pink... with a second camo colour added to it, as "dat's how oomies do dat" :D
-
Great conversions - looking forward to seing these painted.

Now that would be something to see 8)

Ooooh!
These chaps are wonderful, sir.
Stunningly perfect as Orky Kommandos.
:-* :-*
Love the vehicle and the kitbashing, the parts that you are using work perfectly and join seamlessly.
Amazing, considering the variety amongst them.
Really looking forward to watching this develop.
I gave up 40k donkeys years ago, but do still have a fondness for Orky kitbashing madness.

I guess there's no turning back from the pink then? :D This page has some nice reference piccies, I think good pink with blueis camo stripes or splashes wouldn't look too out of the place. I just don't want to make it too HelloKittyish, trying to maintain somekind of zane Orky flavour is the goal.
Mason: same here, haven't played 40K for many years and gave up, or rather sold all my projects exept these and few RT era things. Now with these, dunno where this road will lead me but fortunately there are many other rules set that I can still use.
Now, checking the prices of the Tamiya 1/35 LRDG Chevy I feel sorry that I destroyed my old one over 20 years ago as I teenager... It would have been nice base for another vehicle for these Raiders.
oops: forgot to post the link:

very nice pieces, pocoloco! Just discovered the thread now, but it's a pleasure to follow such a trhead!
-
Thank you Sangennaru, much appreciated.
Nothing much to show now, bought the warbuggy kit and tried out the driver. Looks ok, the other arm needs some repositioning. And poor chap is really tiny compared with the troopers... maybe that's why he ended up behind the wheel :D
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/sorhtdriver_zpsb2357b92.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/sorhtdriver_zpsb2357b92.jpg.html)
Got also paints for the pink scheme but painting will have to wait almost a week, rest of the week from Wednesday onwards will be busy, far away from minis and paints :)
-
Sorry for the pink :D
And you were right, the driver fits in much better than I expected - funny, comparing it to a 1:35 SAS jeep the driver space is much larger.
-
Lucky guess on my part although I did remember the driver being quite tiny in comparison with the newer Orks. The warbuggys gunner model is quite terrible, hopefully I don't have to use it but can come up with a proper Raider instead as a gunner.
-
very nice Ive always liked Da Orks. are you casting any parts? :-* :-*
-
Thank you gents, happy that there is still lot of love out there towards the Orks :)
No casting any parts, not even press molding.
-
Elbows: I used to have quite a number of those old skool Kommando boyz, unfortunately none left :/
I think I have plenty. Did I buy them from you? ???
-
Hmm... good question. Might be? ???
-
While not quite so Orky...the new iteration of the classic "raider" vehicle for the Brits would just be too cool for a game of this type...
The Supacat Jackal etc.

1/48 which is pretty good for 28mm scale stuff, but not the gigantic Orkses.
-
And another threadnomancy for this evening.
Some new pics of the builds so far, now got two full squads of ten Kommandos and start of the command squad, currently numbering only two lads though.
Long range squad:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/kuva3-5_zps57af5cb5.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/kuva3-5_zps57af5cb5.jpg.html)
Close Quarter squad, armed with shotguns and such:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/kuva2-6_zpsa9ca3164.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/kuva2-6_zpsa9ca3164.jpg.html)
Start of the command squad, RTO and Weapons specialist:
(http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j384/pocolocopocoloco/kuva1-5_zpsf6379827.jpg) (http://s1083.photobucket.com/user/pocolocopocoloco/media/kuva1-5_zpsf6379827.jpg.html)
There's still a long way to get any of these painted but maybe one day I dare to start… before that need to finish the command squad, build one more (bigger) ride etc.
-
Coolio 8)
Kromlec for some of the bits?
Sorry, that should be 'Bitz' ::)
cheers
James
-
Cheers James,
yes Krommlech bits. Haven't checked their current range for ages, this "project" has been stalling for quite some time. And I probably won't be making any more of foot sloggers besides this lot.
-
Orks tank busters ,sweet! ;)
-
Lovely work mate :-* Rather tempted to have a go too ;)
-
Nice work!
-
They are a funny bunch, them Orks :)
Will have build few more and then start thinking about painting the whole bunch o_o
-
Rather tempted to have a go too ;)
Glad it's not just my fault then lol
cheers
James
-
