hi guys with my Pirate builds coming to a near end...just looking forward to the games in the coming weeks I am turning my attention to the next genre...
Given that I have the woodlands, the farms and the buildings I thought a foray into 13th century England was in order. All I need are the figures... ;D and a castle...which by the way is on the way :D
Can somebody recommend the 28mm manufacturers that best represent this period?
I am thinking that I'll need around thirty outlaws, sixty or so men at arms and a few knights plus assorted peasants, monks etc
If I start ordering up these now I can have a suitable lead pile stocked up for the late summer..
I was going to call this project 'the tales of shed wood forest'
Eric
Cheers guys :D

In no particular order our current Robin Hood project comprises:
Robin Hood, little John and a Friar Tuck: GW OOP Bertrand the Brigand. Based on the Errol Flynn look. Available on Evil Bay.
Alternative Friar Tuck and Marian sculpted by Maork Cooplestone available from Trent Miniatures via North Star.
Recent BBC TV series Robin, Marian and the Sheriff also available from North Star under the title Legends of Robin Hood.
Merry Men: GW Squires, now OOP available on Evil bay. Alternatives archers from Crusader Miniatures or Black Tree Design.
Peasants: Foundry and Front Rank, Gripping Beast and Black Tree Design
Sheriffs men and various knights: Crusader Miniatures, Black Tree Design, Curteys, Gripping Beast.
Monks: Conquest games, Black Tree Design Foundry and Gripping Beast.
King Richard Salute giveaway figure and Mounted Version available from Trent Miniatures via North Star.
Most of the above come from the HYW and late crusades ranges. you will see most of the above at BLAM. :)
I can show you most of them when we next meet.
Dan's Robin Hood threat has lots of photos, great inspiration:

GW Bertrand the Brigand is available on Ebay now:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=warhammer+squires&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0&_nkw=warhammer+bertrand+the+brigand&_sacat=0
They also have some of the Bretonnian squires as well. (not cheap though) ::)
-
Fireforge Sergeants are plastic and available in both foot and mounted versions.
They could provide the Sheriff of Nottingham's soldiers at a maneagable price.
-
Fireforge Seargents ordered - thank you
-
Hi Eric the Shed,
You could go and have a look at our 30mm range of Robin hood and merry men figures, which of course, include Normans and Anglo Saxons (Classic tab on the left). Not 28mm but hey, who's counting.

Link is not working...
-
The early 100 Year War miniatures sculpted by the Perry Twins for Foundry look great for this and contain many civilian types to populate games and even a wicked tax collector and co :) but if you want an earlier feel the Crusade period miniatures produced by Perry Miniatures are superb too :) both have clergy/monks and civilians and you could mix and match these without too much hassle...after all Robin Hood is a powerful Medieval myth but there were plenty of real Outlaw and brigand gangs during the period :)

lol You're just a weak as we are lol

Size matters Bibbles, size matters! ;)
It looks great Giles.
We shall have to bring our stuiff over to the shed and give it the once over for you :D
-
As Nick says size does matter... ;D
Maybe we should combine all this stuff for a really large 'Robin Hood' game at BLAM this year. Imagine filling Matakashis school room with Sherwood forest & Nottingham. Not to mention a few villages, abbey etc?
Thoughts?

Brilliant :D

Off to do proper friday night things now... ;)

Giles, that looks good as the main castle for your fortified town.
-
Went on a search for the castel, cheapest I could find was 45euro (new) so 15 was a absolute bargain
-
Great project. I've got a castle like that as well, but halfway through the priming process my spray can was empty... In what kind of colour are you going to do your castle? General grey stone? Sandstone?
-
Had a few minutes free over the weekend so I managed tio finish off the fortified priory for the Tales of Shedwood
(http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j375/ErictheShed/priory/p2_zpsb4dfd5ea.jpg)

By Giles usual standard, that is pretty slow.
He must have taken a week off or something.
Slacker!
;)
On a serious note, they look lovely, mate.
:-*
Those Fireforge wotsits certainly look like a nice bit of kit.
Nice review.
Mentioning some of those potential pitfalls is very useful.

They came out alright 8) They were just being released just when I had already bought all my figures and had a few painted. It might have saved me some grief if I'd used them instead..

TA few more were finished last night photos later

crusaders for my knights

Somebody suggested that I ought to build a moat for the castle so I did using the Oxford Blue Vinyl tiles from Homebase - the same as all my other rivers..
Picture here for those who dont want to head over to the blog...www.shedwars.blogspot.com

-
How do I amend my signature...probably very stupid question...
-
go to 'profile' under the LAF banner, top of the page and then there's a menu to modify profile info on the left.
-
The castle is just brilliant. I check your blog fairly regularly so hopefully that will help with the counter!

I see why your happier with the new base boards, it makes such a difference to the field green!
-
Town looks great :-* :-* :-*
Good luck with the figures
-
Oooh, I like the earthy tones you've used. Nice!
-
Cheers Guys - more to come soon
-
All in very lovely. But you've done very wrong with that stag by making him a statue. He'd have much better served as one of the King's Deer and provided a poaching and punishment scenario. Not that he doesn't look good as a statue. Or was he just too out of scale.
I do feel it incumbent on any proper Robin Hood set up to have deer in the forest. Get on it, now, will you?
-
More deer and wild hogs in the woods yes sir
-
Hi Folks if you have been following this build I have some exciting news - first playtest of the rules for the Tales of Shedwood starts tonight !
