I was browsing in Books-A-Million and I noticed something strange...
Robert B Parker, the author of Appaloosa, Brimstone and Resolution (IMHO 3 great novels based around Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch) has a fourth book out :D, despite being deceased :'(
The fourth book is called "Blue Eyed Devil" fantastic read. Took me two days, but I am a rather quick reader.
Much to my surprise :o I observed a 5th book based on the duo of Cole and Hitch by the screenwriter of Appaloosa Robert Knott, titled "Ironhorse".
I did not buy it as it was hardcover but hopefully it's decent and Cole and Hitch can continue their story with further novels.

Didn't know there were books on that duo...I didn't much care for the movie Appaloosa other than the character relationship between the two which was great. I trust the books are worth reading then? I'll have to check one out.

Picked this up from a second hand bookstore on Saturday for £1. Just flicked thro it it seems to give potted histories of all the characters and the plots of the series, I,m looking forward to reading it.

Agreed! The movie was not very good. The books are excellent though.

I love Robert Parker's writing style - almost Chandleresque - short, sharp dialogue and lean, descriptive prose. The Cole and Hitch series are some of my favourite Westerns.
You should also try his Gunman's Rhapsody about the Earps
which reminds me ... his Spenser novels ( an LA P.I ) are cracking reads too

Minor correction - Spenser is set in the Boston area.

whoops
a while since I read these
One of the signs of advancing years. Once I could never re-read a book. Now they're all fresh :)

I've read gunman's rhapsody. It was good too.
So I picked up iron horse by Robrt Knott.
Very different. Not the same style as Parker. I think Hitch gives to much insight now. Will still read it but I'm a bit disappointed.
