The stereotyped surrendering Italian!!!! :o
-
That IS pretty ... up.
Although I think I'd take more offense at being called a tankie instead of a tanker lol
-
The tankie is dismounted. Probably not much one can do when one's tank is no longer.
A lot to-do, about nothing.
-
Some possible vignettes with both tank crews.

The stereotyped surrendering Italian!!!! :o
It could be that the tankie is just showing another tankie to stop there ;) You know, while parking their M13/40 in a tight spot between the oil barrels and ammo crates :)
-
No, I think it's a case of his hands are thrown up in surprise on being issued a vehicle with a main gun, instead of the tankettes he's been crewing up to now...
;)

'It was this big'.
The tanks and figures look excellent :)
-
They are great and the price is ok as well.

The stereotyped surrendering Italian!!!! :o
No, merely the demonstrative Italian, providing emphasis to his words with gestures. " You want me to go to war in that thing?"
On the other hand he might just be doing the hokey-cokey. :)
-
Or he is being the goalie in a friendly game of footie at the barracks. :D

It's what folk call them in the English speaking world, along with bucket head, koala etc etc. A tanker is something that carries oil rather than being covered in it.
Then of course there is the time honoured gag: "Did you hear about the cavalry officer who was so stupid, the others noticed?" Speaking from personal experience that one seems to contain more than a kernel of truth. :)
-
Members of the cavalry regiments hate being called 'tankies', even when you point out that their vehicle is dripping oil and not horse manure.
;)
-
Well we are cavalry the so-called tankies are infantrymen.... lol
in the Italian army tanks are a branch of the infantry (Fanteria Carrista) while the cavalry is a separate arm. In WW2 cavalry was providing recon regiments/battalions (sometime also equipped with L6/40 tanks or maybe horses, guess what my old regiment had in august 1942...). In the cold War War cavely became line tank battalion but they were assigned or as divisional recon battalions (ok doing recon with a full Leo1 battalion) or to brigades made by all cavalry regiment. Then we became full recon with wheeled heavy/light armoured car. Semoventes were artillery (and the crew from the artillery arm). Uniform (except for the coloured collar tabs) was the same, and in Africa often pretty variable.
By the way the L3 was not considered a combat tank but a tankette/exploration vehicle and it was assgined only to light battalions. It is a misconception it was used as a real tank.
-
Joraos, the Italian isn't surrendering he is yelling at the cook not to overcook the pasta!!!!!!!!!! lol
Oh, and if you were in an Italian coffin tank you would be quick to surrender too! ;D
-
If anyone has the 'Afrikakorps in Action' you would have seen the Italian tanker illustration.
Now that you have had your fun with the Italian tanker surrendering perhaps we could move on.
Seeing the M3 Stuart (Honey) and British Grant by Blitzkrieg on TMP this genre is surely going to be popular with modellers/collectors and gamers.
Cheers,
Helen

Those pictures of the "honey" on TMP are incredible! I don't have any Blitzkreig tanks(just because I have Tamiya kits in most everything they made so far) but I hope they are as good as the pics.
I'm not a big fan of the Perrys stuff but a big Thank You to them as this joint venture has seemed to jumpstart the Blitzkreig 1/48 range again.
-
The range is actually 1/56 - so will scale perfectly with Perry.
I have a Honey and Valentine on the way. Really looking forward to them!
-
They are doing them all in 1/48 too ;)
Before the Perry releases they seemed to have stalled on new product in 1/48.The Crusaders,Valentine and some other tanks have been out in 1/48 for months.
The 1/72 line is pretty good too.

Quite right! ;)
It's cool they are doing all at the same time (more or less).

well the same if you were in a crusader, BT, cruiser, or even Panzer III until H... fast/cruiser/early medium tanks were the same despite the usual racist snipes.
Oh about the pasta... better than than got dysentery with AK or British Army rations full of pork in the desert...
-
These look very nice and I am interested to see how the range expands. I hope they do a Matilda II. I want one or two for the boys on Crete.
-
Yes, they have a Matilda II.

Ready to go! Looks nice too. The Warlord one is BEF specific, this one is desert ready.

Hey Grant
what are the differences between a BEF Matilda and a desert one?
I have both the Tamiya model and a old Bandai model and was just curious.
Pete
-
It's at the rear. The BEF Matilda has steel addition for ditching/helping to cross trenches. Later ones do not.
-
Yeah, I see it now.Thanks
-
Like my name sake may suggest I am waiting for the arrival of the DAK. I only hope I can finish my current project before I am torn away to North Africa.
-

Do you really think the British were given pork....hmmm....I would think again as to what sort of meat it might have been... :P

I didn't :D

It was labeled as pork but as usual when it comes to army rations... we really want to ask? lol Certainly the DAK received pork sausage, wurstel... quite good except in summer, African summer. The initial medical returns of the 5th Light are quite funny. It seems that after the first period the UK forces started to ask of the Indian rations rather than UK ones.
I am quite excited for this new release, but I am planning ot use the M3 and the 8th Army for Burma and Malaya not North Africa.
-
I'm really looking forwards to the Maus they showed on facebook :o
