I'd like some help with a colour scheme for E-SE-asian skin tones. I'm going to paint Tonka as a chinese or japanese bodyguard for some sinister pulp villain, but I'm not sure about the skin (and he's got a lot of it, vearing only a pair of trousers...)
I wan a yellowish sheen without it being too 'comic-like'
Any suggestions, please?

Citadel Bronzed flesh is a good start, highlighter w/ bleached bone

there is quite a bit of variation depending on which region and their ancestry. Something I did for fun was to give them a yellow glaze. To be honest, a slightly cartoony look is just right for pulp games! haha
Oh, the glaze I used was the Tan Glaze from Vallejo model colours, very useful. The skin tone was medium flesh, sunny skintone, flat flesh
edit: here are some I painted

That glaze is really effective, nice work, I will try it on the batch of Chinese bandits I am about to start.

I like the glaze idea (and looks).
Now I have a few methods - then I just have to get the model cleaned up and undercoated (another project on its way, yikes!).
Thank you both. If others have suggestion, please kep 'em coming; I'll probably try most of them out in due time as my pulp collection (hopefully) grows

Oh, btw.: are those glazed evildoers copplestone or something similar?

they are from brigade games

oh, a note about the glaze, don't go too heavy on them, and don't use them like a wash. Thin it down a little bit and lightly apply on the skin. Don't water it down too much until it acts like a wash and it pools in the recesses, which will give you yellow lines there and really ugly.

Great looking minis, full of character.
TT.

Reaper makes a nice "Golden Skin" triad that is perfect for asian/oriental skin.
I don't have any pictures of figures taken yet, but I'll post some up when I get them so you can see how it looks.

Hi Lord Billington Wadsworth, welcome aboard! Very nice avatar :) Old Grenadier Jack the Ripper?

Hi everyone,
I usually mix in some Foundry ochre mid tone in with my flesh colour (also Foundry) to achieve an oriental skintone. It gives it more of a yellow/brown tint, but is rather subtle.

err Ray, could you please post some more pics?
Because I like that one A LOT!

Yep, me too, definitely...
But I do find your signature, Knoxville, a bit...disturbing...?
-
"Distracting" might be a better word... well, at least(?) it doesn´t jiggle and bounce... now wait a minute... ;)

Actually my sig is a joke. Just look for civil war signatures on google, there are plenty of silly examples

Hi Ray, very nice skin ton and painting!
Welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for the welcome Prof. :)
Knoxville/argonor: I'll try and get some more photos done over the next couple of days for you.

I actually started work on Tonka today (10 minutes ago, actually). Skin basecoat Citadel Snakebite Leather, Basecoat trousers Citadel Catachan Green, Basecoat belt Citadel Scorched Brown.
We'll see, where that leads us, Tonka and me......
