Well.. the thread title is kinda generic, but i'm actually trying to find the appropriate race for a little warband (maybe only one model) for a friend of mine. She's a naturalist, and she loves animals, but she also doesn't mind gore (she liked the Kingdom Death pieces, her guts are better than mine!).
i firstly thought of Wolfen from the RIP Confrontation, but apparently it's pretty hard to have them for a good price.
Then the trollblood of Hordes (warmachine - privateer press), or the crocodiles from Warlord of Aegyptus... any other suggestions?
Just humanoid animals. Possibly badasses.
thanks!
Jack

Nay, the Basti (cats) from aegyptys will probably please a woman more than reptiles could...
-
There must be loads of anthromorphic minis in the reaper and ral Partha catalogues. That'd be my first place to look.

she likes kingdom death GORM, so i think that more badass the better it is :)

Try the link in my signature, various female human-animal things. ;)

Wolfen- if the prepainted plastic ones are acceptable- can be found relatively cheap at http://www.ludikbazar.com/index.php?cPath=460_4271_4382_4386 , postage is a bit more expensive but depending on what/ how much you buy it's still worth it. not for a single mini though.
Fenris have some nice anthropomorphic minis (http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html#!/~/category/id=2202436&offset=0&sort=normal) + some lovely fishy deep ones (http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html#!/~/category/id=2202438&offset=0&sort=normal).
Slap Miniatures (http://www.slapminis.com/index.asp) has a couple of anthropocritters as well.
Otherworld Miniatures (http://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/) is well worth a closer look as well, Frogmen, Lizardmen, various were creatures (Wilderness Encounters), Gnolls, Troglodytes, Bug Warrior thingies (Dungeon Monsters).
Might be worth having a look at some FantasyFootball minis as well, Impact sells quite a few ranges (http://www.impactminiatures.com/ ).
If roughly Goblin sized is ok, Four A (http://www.fouraminiatures.com/page2.htm) sells some fishy sea demon types.
I guess you're looking for something slightly less 'classic' Beastmen, but if you decide to choose that path, then Heresy (http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=manbane) has quite a nice Minotaur.
There's some more buffalo like Minos by Cenotaphe (http://www.cenotaphe.net/index.php?id=282&L=2).
WarmaHordes features some Gatoremen and pigpeople as well.
Michi- I'd say that greatly depends on the woman in question. Somebody'd give me a box of cats, I'd flog 'em on ebay.

You are probably quite right. I know a lot who love cats, but none who don“t, however there must be some...

I'm not quite sure if I still have them but IIRC I used to have a couple of female Wolfen from Conf. If I still do have any, I might be willing to swap for something I can actually use.

Bushido has some, even anthropomorphic, characters like a fox lady.

I think the big Crocs faction regularly allies itself w. the Basti in Wargods ala the fluff in the game. Nice excuse to buy both!

Dark Sword Miniatures
-
Echoing Sir Barnaby's suggestion, here is a link:
http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/index.php/miniatures/visions-in-fantasy-critters.html
They do suffer from the "too pricey" thingy, but they are cool.

thanks guys! I'll submit the option to her! :)

Oh and if you have a bit of cash to spend and don't mind the fact that they originated as maelstrom games, there is always meirce miniatures, loads of great looking evil dudes there.

Ask her and avoid getting something bad. ;)
-
The lupus from Reaper are pretty badass :)

A tad expensive, but as there aren't that many rhino & elephant people:

http://studiomcvey.highwire.com/product/smm31--hathya
Far less expensive and good for converting smaller (goblinsized) minis:

i've always had my eye on an African inspired warband-
http://www.coolminiornot.com/249378
http://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/miniatures/hell-dorado/hell-dorado-ashoka.html
There is another cool rhinoman (not the Reaper one) but i can't find him right now.
The War of Zodiac minis by Yedharo are badass but a bit on the pricey side (and not 28mm as far as i can tell).
-
(...)There is another cool rhinoman (not the Reaper one) but i can't find him right now.
Maelstrom/ Mierce has a couple. Like the McVey ones sculpted by Allan Carrasco (http://www.allancarrasco.net), if I remember correctly.

Has anyone mentioned Black Orc Games? http://cart.blackorc.com/ (http://cart.blackorc.com/)

i might be interested anyway! :)
I'll try to remember to check for them tonight.

Splintered Light mins may be worth a look. They do a nice range of manimals.
-
The Koborlars faction from Reaper's Warlord game might be a good substitute for Confrontantion Wolfen.
Does it have to be savage and gore? Otherwise you might want to compose a warband of mythical beasts. Reaper's Unicorns mix well with the ones from Ral Partha giving you (if you do not mind to fill the gaps in the winged one) a total of 5 different sculpts to compose a herd from.
-
I really like these guys from Privateer Press. They are Reptile Hounds. Cute and deadly.

Unfortunately I seem to have gotten rid of my female Wolfen sometime during the last decade or so.
Strangely, I don't find a Wrath of Kings reference in this thread yet. A fair number of Confrontation-style furries in there -- even a female werewolf for those who want one.

Finally found it! It's been bugging me for days...

You should check out the rest of their Wyrdworld range. Some very cool human/animal hybrids in there.

or the Khaliman range for Alkemy (arabian big cats)
