Hi everyone :)
I've had an idea for a while to sculpt some Fanatics/ Disciples of the Red Death.
Here is my first attempt at one of the Cultists,, He is a bit static in pose , but I plan on doing a few of these so they can wander the Plague ridden lands looking for new followers and spreading the red death :)
He is 30mm
What do you think so far?

Taking my opinion cum grano salo, I think the Cultist looks TERRIFIC. The Plague Mask is FANTASTIC. The static pose is, for moi, a plus; i.e., the less dynamic position adds a certain sinister aspect to the Evil Guy. GREAT WORK!

I agree with DeafNala on his assessment. I also think there is a certain stately elegance to the piece. The quiet stance, the folds of the robes and the way his hands are held in his sleeves combined give the figure an almost reverent tone. :-* :-*
-
Nice sculpture. He could also be a nice statue. I would buy some. Are you going to cast him?

:-* :-* Lovely model, I would buy some. :D
-
Great job, the mask is especially nice.
-
I'd buy those! 8)
They'd work in almost any setting; fantasy, pulp, scifi...
-
Cult of the Red Death? Wasn't that a movie with Vincent Price?

'Masque of the Red Death', a Roger Corman film based on an Edgar Allan Poe story.
-
And a campaign setting for D&D's Ravenloft... :D
-
Nice sculpt - a static pose that oozes menace. Very well done.
-
Can only echo what the others have said and add: More!
Please show us the rest of what you have planned.
As Daeothar said, they will work anywhere and when.
Perfect!

I completely dig that miniature.
-
Very nice and useful too - but how does he match up with 28mm stuff? :)
-
Excellent stuff!
-
I concur -- a well-sculpted, menacing mini with a wide variety of uses. Excellent draping! I, too, would buy some.
-
These would do excellently as cultists in the Witchfinder game (http://drumsdeep.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Burn%20Witch%20Burn) I am currently working on! I would definitely grab some.
-
Thanks everyone, I never thought he would be this popular :o
I've got plans to do another 4 or 5 cultists and them some different fanatics and maybe a plague cart or wagon as well.
I'll make them available through me, if I cant sell them on for production :)
He is 30mm to the top of his hood, Here is a scale shot with some old 30mm Games Workshop miniatures.
Hope this helps with the size

Looks good, can't wait to see some more. Would go so well in my 'Stealer Cult.
-
Very nice. I'd love to have a set of them as well.
-
A 'troupe' complete with plague cart would be awesome. As I wrote before: if you do it, I will buy!
-
You're sculpting is really improving leaps and bounds! That's a very good sculpt, looking forwards to seeing more from you.
-
Nice mini, can be used as a venetian plague-doctor too. Please do more of those cultists.
-
'Masque of the Red Death', a Roger Corman film based on an Edgar Allan Poe story.
You are quite right. Now i remember.

Hi,
I'm still waiting for some new putty to arrive, but in the meantime I knocked this one up yesterday :)
Sorry about the crappy photo's :( I'll take some better ones tomorrow
I'm giving them slightly different masks for Variety What do you think?
and both of them together

Personally they look a bit too similar for me, maybe turn the head on the second one so he is looking slightly to left or right. Another thing that would be cool would be cultists in animal masks maybe a horned beast for example.

Not sure how many you want to sculpt. If you're planning to have a group of cultists, it might be good to have a bit of variety- a very short one, a fat one, one that's hunched over, a recognizably female one. More interesting for potential buyers and (almost more important) also more interesting for you to sculpt.
-
I too would like some different designs but those two are still great. Look forward to being able to buy some :)
-
I want to buy these. They are great. More poses would enhance the line.
-
Thanks :)

Yeah, the idea is to do lots of followers in different poses. Some with staffs, books etc. I may even do some peasant hangers on, armed henchmen guards to protect the Pilgrimage and some victims of the Red death :)
Should I stick to the plague doctor type mask for theses cultist?
another quick photo, I've got a new camera so I will have more pics later today. :)

Nice work, sir, but I do agree with previous comments that they are a little too similar.
A little variety as mentioned would increase interest.
Has Mr Fett joined the Cult yet?
;)
-
Regarding masks: I'm not quite sure- on one hand that's the most unifying feature (well, if you don't count the robes that is) on the other hand some thematically fitting variations would be interesting as well. Maybe stylised animal skulls or devil/ demon faces?
-
being contrary, I like that they are similar, the differences are very slight as you would expecting IRL when you have folks lined up a certain pose... but yep, more variety would be as equally welcome...
I'd save animal masks for another cult - have the peasants with rough cloth over their mouths and noses to help with the stink, but that should be the unifier I reckon, plague was a bad smell... have a posh accolyte with one of those oranges stuffed with cloves on a stick.

Hi Me again :)
had a spare armature hanging arounds So I knocked this one up yesterday,

Love them, and want them all :-* :-*
-
Love the new pose! I like the uniformity of the masks myself. I find them more menacing and other-worldly when they look so similar.
Having said that, I also like ink's suggestion of different sizes/body types if you wanted them to be unique from each other.
Looking forward to more,
Jevenkah
-
Oh, Yes!
:-*
They are really starting to come together as a proper Cult now.
The more, the merrier.
Or not....
-
Want want want! I'm not sure about changing masks completly.. but maybe a more ornate mask for the higher ranking chaps?
-
Oooh! Very cool stuff! I generally love the creepy style of plague doctors. I have already bought all plague doctor minis I could find (Foundry, Brother Vinni, LAM) and I'd buy these in a heartbeat. Would give them a good home in Gierburg.
Regarding the poses I think it depends on what you really want to do with them. If you want to have a, say, regiment of 16 minis then a uniform pose will certainly work and it will look great and creepy. It will also work if you mainly intend them to be the objective NPCs in a skirmish game. Like interupting a cult from...
Personally, I'd use them as individual figures in a small gang with each one moving independently. Therefore various poses would be nicer.
-
Very nice, will buy them for sure.
Regards,
Za

I think these guys are really cool the mask are killer and I like the uniformity. Off course it would be nice with some diffrent poses but the masks and robes should stay the same to get that cult feel. Awesome work on the sculpt!
-
Thanks for the positive feedback everyone :)
I'm working on another 3 at the moment, so there will be 6 cultists in total for the first release.
I've moved the arm closer to the side to stop it looking like he is hitch hiking
Done a bit work on the back robes.
What do you think?

Looking good, keep it up.
-
Very nice! Clean sculpting, simple and to the point, I like that in a miniature.
The pedant in me has only one comment, that the hands look a little big.
Cheers!

Looks good, I few heavier edges to your drapery wouldn't hurt, give the robes more weight.
Nice though George, well done. Hopefully you'll have some sculpting time soon for other things. ;)
-
So tasty, can't wait for more :)
-
I really like the sculpts, and they are far above anything I can do. I would buy them as cultists. But I think they might look better once painted because ... well, when you put two side by side, I can't help but see Spy vs. Spy from Mad Magazine.
-
these are very cool, I would buy a set also
-
Thanks Everyone :)
I've got another two or three to do then they will be getting released :)
Do you think I should give them lenses like on real plague doctor masks or just leave them hollow?
and should I give the new one a lantern or some sort of icon on his staff?

Used to love Spy Vs Spy ;)

How about a fat one and another one with a lantern?
-
The new one looks nice.
-
The one with the staff works really well, the hands particularly look great.
-
Thanks :)
New one nearly finished, he is supposed to be wielding a Incense burner..

Want!

I'm in for these if you sell them. As for the staff icon. I would do different ones for variety. That is; if youplan to cast them. Nice work regardless.
-
I really like these, I'll take one of each.
-
They have turned out great I love them

They look great together, well done.
-
The Fiend with The Book is a FINE addition to the Gang of Evil Doers. The Lads will work WONDERFULLY in a number of different games. GREAT WORK!
-
Wonderful creepy threatening Hammer/Amicus vibe there seeing them all together. Gave me shivers.
-
As I've previously written I'm very keen to pick some of these chaps up! Please tell us when they become available.
-
I still regret not acquiring these greens for my private range, but I'll have to be content to buy a set of them for my own collection. :)
-
Will definitely be picking a set of these up !
-
Great!
-
any news as to what's happening with these figures

Fenris Games now stock them,

I went there to buy some and then saw they had man beasts and hillbillies so ordered them instead. :)
