I'm wondering if anyone one can point me in the direct of 28mm figures which could be used as Danes for the 1930s?I am also interested in Norwegians of the same period.
With the advent of Bjorn's fantastic interwar Swedes I am thinking about scenario/gaming ideas. One that came to mind was a look back to 1905 and the Swedes attempting to take back Norway .Another thought was a skirmish over disputed islands between the countries or a Danish attempt to retake Scania ...

A Scandinavian three way?

A more 'realistic' scenario would be Swedish intervention in Finland/Åland in the wake of he Russian revolution.

But, hey, it's your fantasy, man... Whatever rocks your boat.

Q: In a world where mankind is ruled by a giant intelligent beaver, what food is no longer consumed?
A: Cheese danish
Defense: In a world ruled by a giant beaver, mankind builds many dams to please the beaver overlord. The low lying city of Copenhagen is flooded. Thousands die. Devastated, the Danes never invent their namesake pastry.

I think I've seen that film ;D
Would Valkyrie Miniatures do for the Norwegians? Not sure if they're still operating though...
-
oh, just in case - No intention to deride any scandinavian people here, only weird humour on my side. In fact I find this topic very interesting because it focusses on historical events I previously was never aware of, so THX.

I wanted to get some Valkyrie Miniatures Norwegians, but they looked terrible:

Sure enough, other LAF members agree and offer an alternative in WWI Austro-Hungarians:

Valkyrie are now defunct.
Whilst not the greatest sculpts in the world, (they were a bit like Scarab miniatures WW1 range), they were accurate for the Norwegian army which fought against the Germans in 1940. I had quite a few them, but once I'd finished my early WW2 games I sold them off....to a chap in Oslo!

I am not sure about Danes but Early War Miniatures do a line in 1940's Norwegians amongst others in 20mm Link is here:

Great figures but sadly not compatible with the forthcoming Swedes :(
I'm feeling tempted to get some Danes made in 28mm but don't know the costs involved- any pointers guys?
-
I think prices for 28mm figure can range between £80 - £120 then their the cost for the molds. not the best to ask as only ever had some some shotguns made up.
Try asking Ian from http://www.mountainminiatures.co.uk/ he did some 28mm shotguns for me.

If they had a war now, it would be over just who exactly is to blame for Aqua. Maybe that can be retroed somehow to the 1930s.

What a horrible painting.

Correct.
One should think it was made in Sweden :D

A more 'realistic' scenario would be Swedish intervention in Finland/Åland in the wake of he Russian revolution.
Well you must be aware of the Swedish military expedition that briefly took control of Ahvenanmaa/Åland during the Finnish Civil War [FCW]? They left the islands when the Germans arrived.
Later when the debate about the ownership of the said islands was handled in the League of Nations, Finland was prepared to demand the northern areas of Västerbotten (belonging to Sweden) if Ahvenanmaa/Åland would have been given under the Swedish control. An escalation of that scenario could be used as a background, I think. Especially if the Danes would then make a move towards Scania...
I have recently accumulated some pics from the FCW, if it's ok for the OP of this thread, I can post them in this thread later on or then start a new thread for them.

I would love to see the pictures!

for proxy figures how about Brigade Games WW I Austrians, two of their packs have ankle gaiters
Or Renegades WW I Austrians, they are larger than the BG though.
-
I guess the most likely, potential conflict was a bit earlier, in 1905, when Norway left the union with Sweden. Even if war was not close, both the Norweigians and the Swedes pulled up troops to the border:

@pocoloco
You mean the Åland crisis? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%85land_crisis
-
He means the very same, former user. As in Wales with Welsh and English, and for similar reasons, many places in Finland have two names. In this case the Årland islamds are also called Ahvenanmaa.
Hope that helps.
I'd love to see the photos pocoloco :D
