Title: Mohamed the Dwarf - is this real?
Post by: traveller on June 04, 2013, 06:31:13 PM
I was reading about the terror villain Belmohktar and found a rather unbeliavable statement:

"Belmokhtar reputedly employed a 3 ft 6 in (1.07 m)-tall axe-wielding dwarf named "Mohamed the Dwarf" to slit the throats of 31 men, women, and children and behead them with an axe in public, as part of his effort to impose a strict Islamic government in Algeria

Honestly, it's the Daily Mail - even if you sentenced their whole staff to work the salt mines, it would take years for them to produce an amount of grain sufficient to offset an average Daily Mail article.

Wasn't there a murderous dwarf in the first Flashman novel?

EDIT: Also, this is straying dangerously close to the Current Affairs caveat, so better try to find the hobby angle real quickly (and stick to it). ;)

Well, it has given me an idea for a new henchman for my Asylum Staff.

Did I hear the announcement of a Terrorist Dwarves range? Or do I need to convert one of my Gimli miniatures  :D

If you wanted to model him, the only description I know to is "At the head of the line was a dwarf, wearing a canvas hood and a scarf covering his face. He had a large knife in one hand and an axe in the other".

There was a made for TV movie a while ago about it, "Zero Dark Shorty", or something like that...  ;)

There's always a distinct prospect, as with anything in the Daily Mail, that it has been mis-translated from the original German. That archaic, pre-war German script combined with seventy year old yellowing newsprint can be quite tricky to decipher.

Let's wait for the film. Hopefully they will cast Bridget Powers (AKA Bridget the Midget) as his paramour.

AFAIK it is only Foundry who has contributed with their "The Family" pack:

No worries, there's a Top spy to fight the menace! And yes, I own the film...

I also wish to add an interesting fact about the Philipine film industry getting a major boost in equipment and staff when Coppola left the country in a hurry after finishing Apocalypse now. That great info can be found in this marvellous interview with the rather unknown movie star Bruce Baron (well, unless you had a large amount of very shitty and foreign action films in the eighties like we did).
