Excellent work so far!!! I may have missed it, are you planning to cover the white polystyrene with anything? Maybe polyfilla, sand or even embossed plastic sheets?

Thanks All for the positive comments

Awesome work, I love all the brickwork on the sea wall.  The boat is amazing!

The sea wall originally was a small test building which I threw together a couple of years ago - I carefully dismantled it and formed the wall, hence the offset on the left hand side of it. The boat has been in this state for far too long - the rigging needs a bit of attention, the masts have to be enhanced and painted and I also want to add some stowed sails. It's a "Minimi" casting, which is a great casting for a land-lubber like me to work on. I have a few cannon and trade goods which will also be added in due course.

Yeap, the polystyrene is not very dense so it will have a covering of sand and painted up to match most of my other scenery. I'm also planning to run some Wills "Granite Setts" along the harbour front to add a bit more interest to this area. The painted and flocked "headland" was original a standalone hill bought at a meet, which never quite looked right on the table. Therefore, I hacked it about a bit to fit this set-up - it will also be painted in to match the remainder of the board.

Looking forward to doing a bit more work on this at the weekend.

Lovely little setting, looking forward to seeing how you do the water.

Looking great so far, RMZ!
 :-*

I am all for multi-purposing terrain to get as much use as possible.
Looking forward to watching this progress.

As for doing the water: Paper Napkins work really well (with the right pattern on it....no Winnie the Pooh!) and are dirt cheap.
 ;)

To echo the others, it looks great :) ;D

I like the offset angle for the harbour wall, it very much adds to the visuals. Can't wait to see the next stages. :)

Thanks again,

Give yourself plenty of time to work on them ... the buildings are from TSS - the "kits" are basic, cast from a flexible resin of varying thickness and do need a lot of work on them. I'll try and take a few close up photos of the individual buildings over the next couple of days.

is there scope for interiors on them?

So I am probably better off to continue to buy conflix off eBay? 10 pounds for a ready painted building versus something fiddly? Mind you I do like the coaching house

Keep going with port

Where did the ship come from

I agree. I have a few barns and buildings. They are quite cheap for resin, but do need a lot of work. Once done they are solid. You could do interiors but as they are cast the reverse side tends to be uneven, and not necessarily smooth.

In my pill addled state I didn't notice that  o_o

Nice touch  :)

Hi,

I like the offset angle for the harbour wall, it very much adds to the visuals.
I work for an Architectural Practice and have never been able to draw two lines parallel to each other ...  lol

Here's a few phots and some details about the half-timber buildigs from TSS -

Most of the kits follow this basic arrangement - roof and walls. This one is the small grain store and the bits on the left of the pic are the staddle stone upon which t rests.

This started out as "Manor Farm" but has been built in a different way to form a jetted building (with quite a few bits left over for another project). The blue foam chimney is not supplied with the kit.

Underside view showing foam core floor; the corner cut out are for the timber dowel strengtheners, which are hot glued into the corners.

As I stated in an earlier post, these kits do need a lot of work - note the gap under the roof and the making good where the jetty section projects. There are quite a number of gaps still to fill on this building, too.

A small, two piece building in my usual Wilkinson Quick Drying Satin Paint undercoat finish (colour - "Conker")

Basic, unaltered small barn

Small hovel with large chimney added; the chimney has a solid blue foam core and is finished with a layer of spackle/ ready mixed filler. I also replaced the roof on this one as the casting were very poor - it's "oldhammer" style with the tiles made from the empty cardboard catfood box.

A run of the mill two story jetted house with a blue foam stack added.

The "Black Dog" pub - a basic house kit with a new stack and sign added.

I'm happy with the finished articles and they are useful in a number of settings, but they don't half take a time to finish.

Enjoy.
