Just finished painting this batch of Airfix 1/32 Wild West figures as the start of a new project, which will probably be set on or near the Rio Grande, plenty of Apaches and Mexican bandits to come. First off some US Cavalry and Cowboys.

The figures are a lot more Hollywood than Historical, but what the hell, they are really nice poses and a lot of fun to paint.

Freakin' gorgeous...and I used to have most of those toys as a kid. What's the trick to keeping paint on them? My father and I used to paint up some of our WW2 1/35 stuff and it always flaked off pretty bad (even after soaping).
-
Never seen a better job on Airfix 1/32! Very, very impressive! :o :o :o
-
Elbows, no trick as such, a good wash in lukewarm water and detergent, primed using GW Spray, then an undercoat of a brown wash, paint using acrylics and finally varnish using GW purity seal, and hope the paint stays on, so far so good.
-
Wow, those are great. Now you just need some buildings to go with them.
-
Fantastic - looking forward to more of this sort of thing! :)
-
:o :-* Damn, these are good. Excellent job. Not my scale but I'm gonna try track some of these down now.
-
Whoooa! They take me back to the 1970/80s! :)
I had all of these and they were well used.
Excellent painting, they have come up really well ;D

:o :o :-*

Brilliant work on those. Memories come back. I am sure I still have some of those in the basement.
-
Excellent paintwork, reminiscent of Captain Blood's ultra high contrast earlier work. 8)

Beautifully painted, amazing.
Bought back fond memories.
Thanks
-
Wonderful work, they are superb! :o

Stunning paint jobs :-* :-* :-*

Well they scrub up well.
Well done Trooper. Great stuff. They've never looked better :)
-
awesome! really really good!
-
Excellent, a joy to behold!
-
Thanks for the positive responses chaps, and praise from the Captain, I am tempted to print that off and frame it, Richard you are a painting hero of mine...there I have come out as a fanboy!!!
-
Oh stop it ;)
lol
-
Sorry for the rethreading.
I just wanted to ask if you prepared these any way prior to painting?
I just got a hold of some airfix pieces my self and would like to paint them proper (like you did!)
-
Great work. Those models sure bring back memories. I was thinking that one reason paint used to flake off in the old days (apart from the rough handling) was that in my case, I pretty much only used Humbrol enamels. Modern acrylics probably a lot more flexible.
-
Yes Brian I must agree with you, I think that acrylics seem to be far better fro the task than Humbrol enamles used to be, it most probably is the flexibility and plasticity you get from the paint. As for preparation, nothing arcane or complicated really, a good wash in lukewarm water with detergent, then when dry a spray of GW Skull White, and when that is dry an undercoat of a brown acrylic wash as a basecoat, then on with the paint. Leave to dry for 24 hours then varnished with GW Purity Seal.

As every body has said, "Excelent stuff". Took me right back to when a friend introduced several of us to the wonderful world of western gunfights (Rules by Kid Caldwell, Botch Blake & Long haired Steve Curtis). At last all those years of watching: Wagon train; Rawhide; High Chapperal; Gun Smoke; Whiplash; Bonanza etc. etc. (not to mention all the movies) was put to good use, much fun was had by all involved.
-
Bonanza!
'Dum-diddle-dum-diddle-dum-diddle-dum-BONANZA!' ;)
Ah, those were the days...
Second only to 'The Virginian'.

Omg, really good, incredible painted :-*

Fantastic work, Trooper, but methinks you can readily wield a brush upon a canvas and create beauty - or at least a great image. Either way, wonderful work.
-
They're just lovely, a real boost of nostalgia-fuelled endophines.
-
My turn to contribute to this thread.
Great paint!
tt43.

That really makes me want to switch scale... Great stuff

Now I am confused, not quite sure what that comment means.

I think he means well done. lol lol
Seconded. Fantastic paint job. :o :o

I wish they would re-work these into 1:72 ... it would save me a hell of a lot of work.
-
Absolutely stunning work on those figures!!!

Only just caught these third time around.
