I've managed to go and get myself a fine little boat, the ainsty man o'war, i'm sadly lacking any crew for it though, so i figured i'd ask here for tips on some kind of britishlooking sailors for ca, 1550..
I've been pondering the OG pirates/european sailors or foundry swashbucklers, since that's all i've found myself ^^

Eureka/fighting 15s do European sailors in their conquistador and Portuguese ranges
Also a lot of the Foundry Swashbucklers are in bare feet and bell bottom 3/4 trousers which would make good sailors
-
these chaps, and the others would be fine too as they didnt really have a uniform and the sailors are pretty much universal

Sailors would look pretty much the same over the 16-17th century then i guess?
//
awesmoe:)
-
Would some figures from the new TAG Tudor range suffice. I haven't seen the whole range some don't know if there are any generic ones suitable?
cheers

I' ve preordered the whole range so some of them might find their way onto a boat, but i'm mostly curious about additional figures now :)

If you have the Ian Heath book on South america there are a good few line drawings, it seems that the sailors fashion was almost turkish style dress.

I'd go with the Foundry sea dogs supplemented by the Euerka Portuguese sailors. They look Tudor enough to me :)
If you're concerned about historical accuracy, I'd say the main problem is that the Ainsty Man-O-War is much more 1700 than 1550. Different shape entirely ;)
-
I think old glory used to have Tudor period ships at one point.
-
Hadn't seen those Eureka ones before, they look useful. Does anybody know of a range of sailors wearing thrummed hats?

There are some openhanded artillerymen that should work well ;)

-
Super :)
I'm curious, would one of the gary chalk ships be more tudor?
-
Oh, any useful pointers for converting one? I've got one built already, not entirely completed tho :)
-
Actually, I'd say the Ainsty vessel looks to be from the mid-17th Century, or so.
Probably useful for 1625 - 1675 best, but might be able to stretch it to 1600 - 1700.
So, you might want a crew from the mid-17th century, as well.

Here's a link to pics of The Golden Hind, which is good for the period you mentioned:

You should be able to find it in plastic kit form, and probably in resin and wood as well, from various retailers, and/or on eBay.
