Title: Modern/near future games
Post by: Shawnt63 on June 09, 2013, 09:48:52 PM
Is there anyone out there that makes Amusement park rides in 25/28mm (tilt-a-whirl, merry go round etc)? I am thinking an amusement park would be a great piece in some of my INEPTT/Pulp games.

Also is there a descent set of non-rioting civilians? I have the Offensive Miniatures Rioting group and they are awesome by the way. But it would be nice to have some non-combatant civilians - are the Lionel or Bachman ones the only real option?

I know there's a few places doing O scale rides, but Ertl did a County Fair set in their "Farm Country" toy line many years ago that still pops up on ebay occasionally. It's good for a carousel and a ferris wheel, though the rest of the accoutrements tend to be on the small side.

As for civilians, I'd suggest Black Cat Bases for the odd model, or Old Glory for the civilians in the Superfigs line (http://oldglory25s.com/index.php?cat_id=686&catname='Civilian' (http://oldglory25s.com/index.php?cat_id=686&catname='Civilian'))

Good luck!

There's a variety of civilians scattered in different manufacturers' ranges, if you're willing to pick and mix.

While a lot of the Mega Miniatures civilians are on the dire side, there are some which are useful:

Hasslefree has some nice ones:

As does Heresy:

em4 has some:

Crooked Dice:

Reaper's Chronoscope line:

Hope some of these help!

You can also buy styrene civilians in realistic poses and proportions from certain model railway manufacturers.

Try sites/stores that sell architectural model supplies. 1/50 is a very common scale for making smaller architectural models. I've often looked at several of those suppliers, but mostly for things like furniture, windows, doors, bikes etc. 1/50 realistically proportioned humans could very well work with more heroic gaming miniatures in 28 or 30mm, especially if they're no 'hero' models but only moving scenery.

They usually have several types; silhouettes in clear or solid colours, photoprints of 'real' people, but also styrene accurate human shapes, often sold by the dozen or even hundreds, with a choice of (very rudimentary) prepainted or bare (white) plastic.

A very good source of cheap background minis I'd say. I wonder if with a little work, they'd work as a zombie horde... :D

+++EDIT+++ Adding some links after a short interwebs search. Looks like cheap is certainly possible if you don't mind a (little?) less quality...
