Not sure if anyone has posted this but it's impressive and a great reminder of how far our hobby has come.

Wonder if he is still around and active in the hobby? His wife was 22 so i'm guessing he was 25 , so he'd be 82 now.

Health and Safety may have an issue if this is the current commercial way of creating masters  :o

Saying that though - the figures where very impressive and better than I could carve.

"It's not often realised how many mine workers turn to carving and sculpture for their relaxation, perhaps the hewing of coal gives a man the urge to fashion material to his own ends."

So the next time any of us moans about delays in a line of forthcoming miniatures just remember that the lads who bring them to us are putting in a backbreaking 12 hour day 'down pit'.

Mr Trice's efforts are noteworthy. I've seen many a line of miniatures that appear to have been carved from wood, coal or margarine, no doubt their sculptors had a better understanding of occupational health and safety regulation and the undesirable side effects of ingesting lead.

I like how quickly he carves away with a pen knife, a quick file and then straight for the paint brush. I wish some of the figures today would clean up so easily. Some of them look better than the commercially available stuff today.

I did like the bit where the ladies come over to inspect the figures. The look on his face is like "DO NOT TOUCH! HAVE YOU WASHED YOUR HANDS? PUT THAT DOWN AT ONCE!" I would think he is whittling at one of his fingers under the table to supress the temptation to yell at them. lol
