Title: bannisters in 28mm
Post by: anevilgiraffe on 13 June 2013, 11:12:43 AM
anyone do banisters in 28mm... could make my own, but as I think ahead, there will be a lot of them, so figure if someone makes them...

Fenris railings don't really fit the bill sadly... looking for the stairway, landing bannister type... nothing too fancy needed...

I would check Artesania Latina's ship-modelling pieces as I've seen some that could be of use. Another thought that occurs to me are some fancy toothpicks with work done on the blunt end. Also, I'm not sure if they come small enough but crochet needles have handles I often use for columns (in the larger varieties).

I work near the 4D modellers shop in Tower Hill - I am sure that I have seen some in there. I think they have an online shop

They do and it's awful to navigate, using the search bar leads to a fist through the monitor  :-[

It might be worth looking at either dolls house or railway forums or if as you say it doesn't need to be too fancy someone could laser it for you.

cheers

James

I second the toothpicks idea - done it myself before, and you can get some nice designs that make great scale balustrade. Something like this:

Or this:

Another idea are the smaller trim pieces available for doll's house contruction. If you can find a retailer who specializes in dollhouse building you often can find a LOT of very interesting trim strips.

Warbases already do a modular balcony set and will give quotes on custom pieces (I just got a stack of regency style windows done) maybe they could do something?

Looks good but it's all in Spanish!

My Spanish only extends to ordering beer...

Roger?

I second the suggestion for ship modelling bits if you are looking for the thicker turned wood style. Most hobby shops carry them.

How about this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VICTORIAN-TURNED-SPINDLE-BALUSTRADE-O-On30-Structure-GL3527-/360664698038?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item53f94a8cb6

1/2 inch tall - probably okay scale wise.

that would be good if it wasn't $14 postage to the UK  lol

You can lead a giraffe to water.... :-P

The balustrade is made by Grandt Line - I can't find a UK seller with a cursory search, but I'm sure a good model shop must be able to get it. For example, this store says that it can order all Grandt Line products, so they're worth a call: http://sbmodels.uk.net/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1&category_id=17&page=shop.browse&limit=20&limitstart=20

There's also some fancier stuff here: http://www.scalelink.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2escalelink%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fScale_1_43___Gauge_O____Echelle_1_43__0___________%2ehtml&WD=balustrade&PN=Scale_1_43___Gauge_O____Echelle_1_43__0___________%2ehtml%23aSLOF53#aSLOF53

And the toothpicks/cocktail sticks really are very good :-)

I can confirm that, having emailed Stewart at SB Models, they can order anything from the Grandt Line catalogue for you - just email him a list of requirements and he'll give you a quote (details on their contact page).

Hope that helps,
