Title: In search of: Atlanteans, by way of Disney
Post by: Scorpio on 15 June 2013, 09:29:41 PM
So as VSF wends its way around my brain, I was painting the other day and threw on Disney's Atlantis: the Lost Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis:_The_Lost_Empire). I was a fan of it when I saw it in theaters twelve years ago, and was surprised how well it held up even today. (In no small part ot the visual stylings of Mike Mignola (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Mignola), but maybe that's just me.)

And like any good Victorian adventurer, the allure of lost Atlantis calls. Surely, out there, someone makes figs that could pass for the Atlanteans from the movie? A bit tribal, with an oceanic flowing-ness to it. Straight hair would also be a plus, as I have no talent for conversions. Any clues?

If you do find any, I' be interested in hearing.

Way back when, in the days of the Atlantis campaign, I was a frequent visitor to Wargames Factory, where I intervened on a whole bunch of threads: two of my favourite were the 'Atlanteans' and 'Amazons' threads (the latter now having disappeared). What we were trying to do was come up with a slightly pre-Columbian, slightly Ancient Near East set of minis ('Atlanteans' eventually = 'male' and 'Amazons' = 'female') that sort of resembled the Atlanteans from 'Lost Empire'.

Needless to say, when WF released its 'Fantasy Greek' Amazons I wasn't best pleased, and no 'Atlanteans' have surfaced at all.
