The infamous hunting expeditions of Captain Roosevelt have all but been completely forgotten today. Luckily some would say. None the less it is with a certain pride that I here for the first time ever present a few pages from the memoirs of the good captain himself.
"It had been a dry journey for almost a week. The company was beginning to get on each others nerves and the locals were restless. I could have sworn that Captain Havoc was keeping a secret stash that he wouldn't let anyone else in on, but the devil wouldn't make a mistake clumsy enough to let me learn of it.
It was such - dry as a reed in the sun - that I ventured next to the Agojonchichulah river in the deep jungle searching for the remnants of that good damn solicitor and his crooked gang of do no good no do gooders!
On the 10th day or maybe the 15th? My star map was off as it turned out. I swear I heard the chilling scream of a woman tortured by the wild animals of the jungle.
I immediately told my men to keep cool and sit still upon which our bagage bearers spoke of the High God Zambi and ran off. I think.
The smell of fresh herbs crept in my nostrils. I heard the roar of a giant cat and then plunged my self forward to lead my men to the smell. We had not fed for days, we realised, constantly searching for a drop of nectar to soothe our souls..."
Unfortunately the captains diary ends there - the next few pages are torn out and we will never know how he got through this perilous journey.
We played a game of Triumph & Tragedy. All models and terrain painted by Jonas.
On side side was
Captain Roosevelt
Captain Havoc (Drunkard, unarmed)
Corto Maltose (pistol)
Ronald MacDonald (Scottish big game hunter)
Lord Begsafist
4 British troopers
3 Baggage Bearers
And then there were the Oompa loompas:
18 Cannibals
Zartan the Undeniable

Zartan catches up with Lord Begsafist and clubs him! But alas! Not hard enough. He manages to escape to an unknown destiny in the deep jungle.
Still not a drop in sight

It was an entertaining game, but the write up is even better lol
We managed to make up some pretty uneven sides due to not understanding completely how to make up the British party. We made all the independent characters leaders (with no one to lead) where we probably should have made some heroes.
Combined with the raw cannibal archers ability to keep rolling the most brilliant (and lucky) dice roll for their shooting it made for a quick demise for the British expedition.
There were lost more cannibals to dessertion, poisoned water and heat strokes than to British shooting.
"We are slaughtering the British scum... Run Away!" lol

Looks like a great game.
-
excellent!
finally I see rifles uniforms in colonial context - Empress I presume? Did You paint up more of them?
the Cecil Rhodes impression staging on the shore is well worth a second glance :D
-
I have 10 man painted up in the rifle green and I have 10 more which is still not finished.
They are usually played as the Royal Mail Rifle Core in our VSF games. So I am not sure they are painted 100% historical correct.
-
oh, don't bother please
pleasant enough to see something else than madder red ;)
