Lovely. What's the difference between demilancers and knights? And please no answers like, 'about 150 years'.
-
They were known as Demi lancers as they carried a Demi lance. In effect they were medium cavalry and many were indeed knights. They came about owing to a lack of heavy horses in the early tudor period.
At the start, around 1500 they wore full armour but this soon gave way to three quarter armour and open faced helmets as the 16 c went on.
In the period I'm interested in, 1513, they were roughly equivalent to the French 'archer' cavalry.

Money probably played a part too as well as the climate in which they fought, certainly in England's case they would soon prove effective as 'heavy' cavalry against the scots and Irish but not as cumbersome and costly as a man at arms.
