I wanted to make a terrain board to go with 'Crooked Dice' Blakes 7 range of figures.
I have set it in a BBC quarry (also heavily used in Doctor Who), with a small Federation base. I tried to get a 1970s feel to the board.

:o WOW :o
That is really fantastic! Amazing board you have there, would work great as a 7TV evil bosses lair too
-
Amazing! :-*

FAN FRACKING TASTIC!
-
oh yes, you really captured the look and feel :D
-
That's excellent. 8)
Perfectly in keeping with the original series. Nice use of the large dome too.
Amazing! :-*
Confirmed

Excellent stuff!

a BBC quarry
Ubiquitous! lol lol lol
Great job. Really captures the flavour of the silly thing!
-
Soooo that's really cool! What is it made out of?
-
Amazing! :-*

This is truly amazing. Can you take some pictures of it with miniatures on it? I'd love to see the whole effect. Also, how did you build it?
-
That is incredibly cool...and I don't even like the genre (pulpy sci-fi stuff doesn't do it for me). Frikkin' genius fella!
-
Lovely work, and very in keeping.
Tell me, did you keep the budget down at rock bottom? I remember Paul Darrow doing an interview where he said the BBC spent more money on some of Bruce Forsyth's toupes than they had onentire seasons of Blake's 7! lol :o
-
Oooooh! Me wanna! Niceeeeeee!
-
Very nice, but shouldn't anything sci-fi from the Beeb look like it was filmed in a disused quarry? :)

Apart from that filmed in Cardiff - yes!
-
Blake 7 is a distant and vague memory for me, but I do remember the finale. Who wouldn't......
This is awesome terrain, to be sure.
-
That's absolutley spot-on, Ranger. Terrific!
So you've got a quarry and a domed base with plastic furniture. A replica of the Guinness factory next?
-
Lovely, perfectly captures the feel of the series. 8)

Absolutely brilliant! :o
-
By the GODS!!!!! it took me 20min to find all the pieces of my mind from all over the room! Totally mind blowing WOW!!!!! :o :o :o :-* :-* :-* :-*

:o
That is simply stunning and so full of character!

Superb job that looks Brill!
-
Outstanding, now lets see some miniatures on it please :)

Together with UFO, Blakes 7 is by far my favourite scifi show from back then. And having rewatched the entire series a couple of times on DVD over the last couple of years, I can vouch for the look and feel of the table! 8)
Makes me want to do something similar some time...
But I will have to join the chorus here and demand a how-to for your magnificent piece of work, preferably with WIP pictures, of course... :D
-
That is great! Even better than BBC original models for the era lol
-
Proving once again how much a dilettante I am, you score this on your sixth post... :-[
Very nice, but shouldn't anything sci-fi from the Beeb look like it was filmed in a disused quarry? :)
I was about to say, 'Don't Panic!'

Do I recognise a cake stand in there?
-
Yes, definitely hoping to hear what went into building this. Some sort of display stand for the dome complex? And what are the rock strata layers?
-
Hello Everybody.
Thanks very much for the kind comments.
I will of course comply in full with the requests of the online community and answer questions.
The quarry is made from cardboard ceiling tiles I scavenged from a skip. They tear very easily with a nice jagged edge or cut with a craft knife to give a crisp finish. They then need to be PVAed to harden them. Grey paint and dry brushed in lighter grey. I used 2 colours of builders sand which I left unpainted. The inside of the base is, as a couple of people guessed, a two tier cupcake stand bought from Ebay, I left the green protective plastic on the lower level as it gave a nice federation green finish.
The furniture and equipment in the base is from Copplestone and Antenocitis.
The dome I brought from a craft store.
I love the Crooked Dice Blakes 7 figures. They have hinted that they will be making more for the range, Mutoids, Scientists, officers and such, so I'll have some staff for the lower level of the base.
Anyway here are more pictures.

Wonderful!
-
Aha! I guessed it might be those ceiling tiles. Nice to see that they work well for this!
-
:-*Wow, stunning. the dome is from a craft store? Inspired
lovely paint job on the Future Freedom Fighters btw!
-
Thanks for the info on construction.
Cake stand, eh...?
Hmmmm...
The miniatures themselves are equally well done.

Nervous Nelly comment: Be careful, as some old tiles have asbestos; tiles are relatively stable, but cutting can raise some nasty dust.

Hmmmm...
Having a lady of the house who loves crafts can be useful, as most such stores have a feminine atmosphere. 'Just here with the lady...'; I'm oft checking out the wedding cake items for ionic columns of various height.
The miniatures themselves are equally well done.
:-*
*ahem* Ah, yes, quite so...
Embarrassed to have to be reminded to say how taken I am with them. ::)

I hate you.
I really really do you know...
-
Wow! Really excellent terrain and figures. Brings back fond memories of the TV series ....
-
Thats a really nice board, and figures (even if I've never saw the series) :)

Perfect

That's outstanding work. Absolutely fantastic.

Apart from that filmed in Cardiff - yes!
The BBC holy grail is to find a disused quarry in Cardiff, and thereby cut costs by keeping all production in one location.
Give us an after action report please, and tell us you are taking it to a show too?
