Title: "New" Ruin painted and a question
Post by: cstoesen on 20 June 2013, 09:39:15 PM
I updated my blog with my painting progress.  Here is the new building I finally got around to finishing.  More pictures on the blog: http://cstoesen.blogspot.com/2013/06/painting-progress-and-question-of-day.html (http://cstoesen.blogspot.com/2013/06/painting-progress-and-question-of-day.html)

Here is the question of the day for our viewers. For towns in the Ukraine circa 1941, what were the streets made out of? Cobblestone or something else? It almost looks like if from some of the other pictures that I saw but I am just not sure.

Thanks,

Chris

Its depend what size of the towns and do you wanna do the center or the outskirts. If the center of the big one - just as normal european towns, if rather the small or outskirts - sandy roads or irregular cobblestones. I'll find you some pictures and post it here.

Check this picture (a photo for an adult only and presents very drastic scene). Its Kiev after its capture by Germans in 1941. On the street you can see the dead bodies of killed Jews (this is a picture of the Babi Yar massacre victims).
Despite this fact, in this image you can see how the Ukrainian pavement looked like.
I'm sorry if these picture was to drastic and did offend you.

This is the link to it:

Thanks.  Anyone have a tutorial for making 15mm cobblestone streets?

look for HO railway scenery - there are a lot of mats available and You save a lot of time since pavement stones are very small in that scale

It's true what former user says, but keep in mind that it may be expensive. At least, the ones I did were, and those were more strips than mats. (made by Noch). Great stuff, is in 3D, but it costs... 9, 10 euros per piece? For 2 feet long it's quite expensive imo.
