Nope- these aren't Saleh's figures; since I'm already invested in 42mm samurai figures, I'm using Steve Barber's samurai to make my buntai for playing Ronin (Once I'm finished, I should have enough figures to provide plenty of warbands for my friends to choose from.)
These are all heavily converted; you can read the details of how I went about the conversions at my blog (June 2013):

Later, I plan on adding a couple teppo.
(And I don't know if Ronin will have rules for banners, but I included a banner man to help the group look "cool." :))

They're a bit special :-* :-* Any chance of a close up of Mr Hoopy pants?

Certainly (he's a figure I did a while back):

the banner is unique, never seen one like it without a Roman Emperor's bust in the middle.
or is he going to add a hole and bird perch later? lol
couldn't resist, but love the brush work, espcially the fabrics. lovely splash of colour to accent the black retinue armour

Great!

I go the idea from the three-dimensional sashimono set offered by the Perrys.
I had a good chuckle at "bird perch" lol
-
Ok, I will order the book! lol
-
The wooden banner is actually a notice board and although it could've been used as a sashimono I've never seen one used as a nobori.
Doesn't mean to say that you can't though 8)
Great painting :-*
I might just have a closer look at the 40mm stuff...
cheers

I wanted to do something different, and I since my little warband is fictional, I knew I could get away with it :)
I love Steve Barber's 42mm samurai stuff (finally, samurai lacing I can paint!) But the scale is definitely niche. Steve has enough figures for a full collection, but the hardest part is finding terrain/scenery; I have to custom-make everything (though, I actually enjoy that part.)
-
I've thought about doing some 40mm terrain for the catalogue but with it being a niche within a niche it might not be worth it lol
Certainly open to custom work though ;)
cheers

If he makes a few more Ikko Ikki monk's I might be tempted to venter into 40 for a bit myself. :D
Speaking of the Monk, does any one have a pic of him?

I'd also love some more Ikko Ikki (among other figures), but here's a pic of the one Steve makes (the blade is my own replacement, that's why it's straighter than normal ... so no, it's not supposed to be a ninjato :) )

Yes, a bushi buntai can have a banner (assuming the rules have not change radically from final play-testing).

Lovely work

Lucky them!

Stunning, as usual.

Can I be your friend?
:D

lol
My friends don't get to keep the buntai- they just get to play with my toys :)
Now it's time to make some more terrain ....

Yep, they can still have one.

Believe me that's enough

Here's my "bandit" buntai. It's really just my peasants and some rough-looking samurai organized together. I still need to figure out some piece-meal armor as well as a few ranged fighters.
I'm also working on another Bushi group and a Koryu group. I'd like to do some monks, but that would take some major conversion work. Maybe in the future....
I know there are only four buntai that have available figures, but does anyone know if there are other buntai lists? Peasants? Ikko Ikki? Otokodate? (Though, I guess I remember reading we could build our own warbands from the available character types.)
(Note- these are all 42mm Steve Barber samurai.)

There is a peasant list that can take as many Ronin as it can afford after buying peasants, wonder what that's for :)
Ikko-Ikki, Chinese and Korean are the others I think. There is also a section on gaming other periods with a couple of lists for that.

Great- I have plenty of peasants and ronin. Not sure if I have enough rice to pay the ronin ... but maybe if I just ate millet .... :)
