is this a one-off or are You considering going into that period and setting?
I was always wondering how many would want to wargame this. Especially France's small forgotten colonial encounters.
-
This is so cool!
Mrs Pedicaris is next?
-
Very nice Ged - its not in Latin America thou... lol
Regards
Shaun in The Bunker
-
And where exactly does he fit into Mexico?
Great sculpt. :)
The shoot out at the end of the film deserves to be gamed. ;D
-
Great sculpt, Ged!
:-*
Especially France's small forgotten colonial encounters.
Not forgotten by everyone, though.
;)
-
former user
yep....the very flare has gone up...the period is pretty captivating
(literally!!)
Treveller.....possibly old chap!!
Shaun...i know...you know what its like..it fits into my niche areas of
interest and i love the film simples!! :D

different factions ..been on my mind for a while. tried out a couple of sculpts ................this was the green for me.
Mason............indeed young man!! ;)

:-* That's the absolute dogs' bollox, put me down for one 8)
I'm not surprised by the scotch accent, bloody Celts get everywhere ;)
Even Kate's Arab horse was part Irish lol
-
Lovely. That's a really good sculpt of Raisuli's big "F-off" sword.
-
Very nicely done! And a good likeness too!
-
Chris.you know us micks!! lol...............i had a few sculpts made this
was by far the best.............my Spanish -American war yanks rough riders
will do for the yanks..................Palace Guard next..maybe,,or more
Berbers.
Furt ..i was really pleased with the rendidtion of the sword as well
Fram....likeness is good and was important on the sculpt brief i gave out
now to get him cast.....

my Spanish -American war yanks rough riders

You need a Yank Sergent with a pump action shotgun if you are going to do it justice and some Germans in Pickelhaubes, one officer in particular wearing a monicle wielding a Mauser and sabre. ;)
-
coulnt agree more Nick..the pump action shotgun gun was on the list
im making this morning...as are some of the other characters...the old boy
who plugs a few of the Berbers at the beginning!!. loads of great
characters..........the Company of Marines potrayed win the fim were
Spanish Special forces no wonder they moved so crisply and looked the
part!! :D regards Ged www.gringo40s.com
-
Guess what film I'll be watching tonight :D
-
Brilliant
When is this on sale Ged?
-

Was that 1975? Never realised that film was so old.
I loved the soundtrack of that film - and Roosevelt too.
Brilliant model.
-
I like this! :-*
Early 20th century Morocco is one of my (too many) projects. Interesting context with so many foreign countries trying to set a foot in there. Could give ideas of diplomatic scenarios, and/or Pulp mixed with international diplomacy. A sort of French-flavoured (or Spanish-flavoured in the north) chaos in Cairo.
-
lovely
Don't you also need a couple of Austrian husars for that final fight ?
Carl
(even more Austrians needed Ged !) :D
-
Vanvlak
it was indeed 1975...the director said Sean Connery was grumpy and dour but loved his performance..Candice was more concerned if she looked
good!! meeow!! still all good in the end! ..a cracker of a film
Patrice its got the lot with the involment of so many of the super powers
of the time
Cdr..............Carl your quite right when i do the hussars for the maximillian period they would suit this conflict!!

One game I like to play while watching the romance sub-plot develop is imagining they are the actual historical characters rather than the two Hollywood idols. You get a completely different film...
The tale of a burgeoning love across cultural and political boundaries...
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/13/163_03_07_13_11_37_05.jpg) (http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/13/163_03_07_13_11_38_11.jpg)
Raisuli (Sean Connery) Perdicaris (Candice Bergen)
...of two portly and heavily-bearded middle-aged men. lol
-
lol
-
The Wind and the Lion
My favourite film, since many many years!
Yes it is needed to be covered with special miniatures.
But the Raisuli is superb!
So, we need some more miniatures Mrs Pedecaris (Candice Bergen), the children, the US marines, the Guards ....
Please make them available!!!!
And my the way
ladies and gentlemen
May I remind you the very nice game "the wind and the lion" by Warflag!
http://www.warflag.com/shadow/windlion/windlion1.htm
(in four parts with superb terrain!!)
-
The game on Warflag is great.
A number of years ago I was able to play Ian's
"The Wind and the Lion."
Great fun, loved it.
All of his games with the Red Shadow were super.
-
Fantastic!!!I really want to get into this period now!!!!
-
thanks Gents one and all seems the figure was worth doing!!
looking at the next phase

Now if you can sculpt the marines in dress uniform, for the Tangiers attack on the palace,oh yeah and maybe a navy band. Great sculpt.
-
thanks Jurgen.................possibly the highlight of the film .love the Marines commanding officer (wasnt he in Dallas?) full frontal assault on a palace.....the Palace Guard have neat uniforms as well! :-*

Then you'll have a choice… sculpt miniatures according to the film, or closer to historical types? :D
Some times ago I posted some info about Moroccan troops of Casablanca:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=53332.msg628832#msg628832
I'm not sure about cavalry uniforms, perhaps they were like those in the film. Infantry uniform is simple enough but interesting.
In my opinion, for this period and context we also need miniatures of local civilians (I found lots of pics!), and of French armed sailors (not only Marines). Casablanca was stormed by only 60 sailors in 1907! (and it was not a wise move but that's another point).
-
Patrice
i will probably do both as it will give a wider variety of figures to game
with and players can then play as TWITL or factual...both appeal to
me as well.
french armed sailors look interesting any pics on these?
and mustnt forget the Spanish.............

To say this figure is brilliant goes without saying - as ALL Gringo figures are great. but this one really hits the mark. I've never even heard of the film, but I knew who the figure was just by looking.
Following on from former user, I must say that I can hear a Scottish accent just by looking at the figure.
Brilliant as ever Ged
Best wishes DaveL
-
and mustnt forget the Spanish.............
I just found this! (I can't post the pic as it is not free of rights). Spanish troops in Casablanca, 1907. There are other pics if you look around the website:
