Title: Building a church
Post by: lordbert on July 04, 2013, 10:43:10 AM
While on holiday I was inspired to build myself some more terrain. On return the wife said I couldn't build another half-timbered house, so of my sketches I opted for the church.

I'm going to be blogging about the build at http://lordbert.wordpress.com/tag/church-build/ (http://lordbert.wordpress.com/tag/church-build/), and updating on here for anyone interested, comments would be most welcome.

Looks good.

How/with what did you make the door handle? I need to make some myself.

It's some wire I got from a pound shop. Can't recall the type of it, it was in the garden section. It's bendable but firm.

Decided to build the interior of the church too and have a removable roof. It's going to be a tonne more work, but a hell of a lot of fun. I've just finished modelling the raised floor for the alter, using some DAS modelling clay. First time use of it as well. I'm now currently working out how to make a balsa wood roof frame, I've not had to use Pythagoras since high school! Will post some pictures later of progress.

OOh that looks good. I am considering a romanesque church for my next build too, to go with my bretonnians. (current project aside). I like what you're doing with the balsa, it looks very aged and appropriate.

I've not had to use Pythagoras since high school! Will post some pictures later of progress.

It is amazing what we need for the hobby. I had to google how to use COS for a previous build. Ive used it a hundred times in High School, but cant remember a fragment of the equation.  lol

The first piece of roof is now done - unsure how I'll handle the end piece, but i'm up for the challenge!

That tends to be the way I build stuff, I kinda have the idea and then make it up as I go along.

Got to spend a good chunk of tonight working on the church, so progress is being made (and the end of the roof now has some covering).

You can read more detail on the blog http://lordbert.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/church-day-6/ (http://lordbert.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/church-day-6/) but heres some more sample images:

I like your use of modelling clay, it manages to put a lot of detail/texture into the simple structure. Very nice. I look forward to watching it grow.

I'm afraid life got in the way since my last update, but I hadn't realise quite how long ago that was! Thanks for asking about it, you might have just spurred me on with getting it finished!
