Title: My Zombie Journey (terrain added 10 Sept)
Post by: Melnibonean on 10 July 2013, 12:06:17 PM
Greetings Folks,
Here are my first steps towards the Z-Apocalypse. I've had a look as ATZ and 7ombieTV and decided to go with ZTV. I'm a fan of 7TV so maybe it has something to do with familiarity.

Anyway, these are my first lot of survivors.

Seconded!  May I suggest a few washes just to give a little more depth?  Have you tried the Army Painter Dips?  You can just brush them on, which I think works much better.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I caved and picked up 7ombietv.... nice game!  That's the really great thing about tabletop games.  Once you have the minis and terrain, rule sets can be poped in and out.  Why have to choose?  ATZ is $18 and 7Z is $8, so you can have your cake and eat it too!

Thanks for your kind replies.

I use the Games Colour flesh - give it a wash with Ogryn Flesh, Dyrbrush with Games Colour flesh - Light drybrush with Games Colour pale flesh (on face and fingers etc).

So, it looks like the apocalypse has started (well a very minor apocalypse of 2 dozen dead un's).

Here's my first batch of zeds. Nothing special and not well painted. In my opinion they don't need great painting as they are zombies and it doesn't matter if they look crappy. I think the crapyness adds to the overall undead-hoard look.

Just caught on to this thread.

Great work, sir.
Love those survivors and the hoard looks good too.

Where is the fat survivor from?

@Scurv Hasslefree

Most of them, if not all, are from Hasslefree's Modern Adventurers range:

Nice blood on the chainsaw. I've been pondering how to do something myself... a google search seems to fail at that point.

Do you have any tips, tutorials or reference images you used?

Cheers
Matt

I just used an old brush and stipple a bunch of very dark red (almost dark brown) and then stippled it a bit less with a brighter red in a few places. The thinking behind it being that the darker red represented darker arterial blood and dried (or soaked) gore and the lighter red is more recent blood. I did the same on the zombies but to a lesser degree of finesse.

Every Apocalypse has to start somewhere  ;)

Nice horde so far I agree the more gory looking the better they fit in  :D

SIC!

Nice start - I feel more and more compelled to dive back into my plastic ocean of Zeds  :)

I've just finished a few more survivors and I'll follow these up with another batch of zeds (metal ones this time).
Like the rest of my survivors these guys are, once again, from Hasslefree.

Nice paint jobs mate.  My only suggestion?  Make the bases a little more interesting, the mini's will POP!

I like the scooby model. Yes, faces and bases really make the models. You should try some snow bases, you can find alot of tutorials around the web for making them easy too. Snow bases really add a grim dark touch to survivors / zombies. Also easy to make blood stains and pools to stick out more with the contrast.

I still haven't managed a game yet but working on it.

I'm not overly worried about the bases but I think I'll add a few odd pieces of litter to spice things up a bit.

This is my hillbilly gas station (as seen in numerous 80's/90's slasher movies). It's not finished yet, and I still need to add a counter to the front room of the wood building and some furniture in the back. The garage needs some junk and I still need to make the gas pumps, an outdoor crapper and a billboard.

That O-sacle pump looks the part.
There's also a cool 1/43 papermodel for free on the net :

Thanks for the tips guys.

The Breaker: That one is probably a little too old for what I need. But thanks still.

zizi666: I can use these. I've made plenty of card terrain and I'll give these a try.
