What's the tripod ladder thing?

I assume it's to lift artillery barrels onto the carriage....

I like the trumpeter: standing in the stirrups seems a truer way to fill his lungs for a good blast. Not a fan of the horse though as the neck and tail aren't quite right IMHO.
